SUPERINTENDENT - Buildings and Facilities

**Permanent, Full Time - 28 hours per week, and on-call required.**

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

Fontbonne Ministries is a non-profit community based charitable organization that offers diverse programming in an accepting, inclusive environment. Our programs include the provision of affordable housing, access to food, clothing and hygiene products, wellness services and safe community space to foster connections. Populations served include seniors, vulnerable persons, and people experiencing social isolation.

Fontbonne Ministries was founded in June 2000 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto to respond to changing societal needs. Sponsorship of Fontbonne Ministries was transferred to Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario (CHSO) in 2022.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Responsible for the property management and oversight including hands-on performance of a variety of tasks to ensure the overall operations and maintenance of all related building operating equipment to ensure the day-to-day safe and continuous operation of the building and property at 791 Queen St East, and one satellite site in Toronto. This will include, but not be limited to, general carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating and HVAC, painting, snow removal and grounds.

AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
- Perform and assess numerous on-site maintenance and repairs to the Fontbonne Ministries properties.
- Hire and provide general oversight to external contractors as required.
- Act as project manager on larger scale assignments, including both internal and external renovations and/or repairs. Provide advice and guidance as required.
- Ensure all equipment and property is inspected routinely, developing performance maintenance schedules to ensure that all systems are performing efficiently and remain in sound working order. Maintain records.
- Document issues of concern, making recommendations that will improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, or to comply with environmental, building and safety codes.
- Monitor all requests for services received from various sources, ensuring both adequate response time and quality of workmanship being performed. Act as liaison with residents and all external contractors when performing tasks.
- Promote and teach safe work practices methods amongst staff, ensuring that all safety requirements and programs are correctly implemented. Conducting fire drills as required. Maintain control over restricted areas such as the roof, mechanical/electrical rooms and equipment.
- Be available for on-call work and overtime hours, acting as main point of contact in emergency situations, coordinating response as required.
- Perform routine administrative functions, including work schedules, monitoring expenditures, providing input into the annual budget and capital planning processes.

EDUCATION/SKILLS
- College Diploma in related field
- Health & Safety Certification

EXPERIENCE
- 3-5 years of facilities and or property management experience volunteer coordination & fundraising experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.
- A thorough understanding of the operation and maintenance of building operation systems, supported through formal training and/or education at a post-secondary level.
- A valid Ontario driver’s license is considered a must
- A knowledge in related Health and Safety legislation and training.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Comfortable working in a faith-based environment
- Some evening and weekend availability may be required.
