Horticulturalist/gardener

Earthbound Kids is a seasonal summer camp and tree farm with two locations serving children and youth ages 4-16. Our programs include summer camps, leadership programs, and outdoor education programs. The programs we offer have a strong emphasis on growing trees, sustainable farming and environmental education.

We are looking for mature and caring Horticulturalists/Gardeners for both our Stouffville and Schomberg Ontario locations, for the 2023 season. Gardeners will manage the planting, care and upkeep of our teaching gardens, orchards and nursery. The position involves, working alongside our Arborist & Outdoor Education team to create safe, informative and meaningful learning experiences for school groups and campers.

**Responsibilities**:

- Maintenance of gardens weeding, pruning and dead heading, mulching and amending existing gardens
- Planting trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals
- Maintenance of existing gardens including, weeding, mulching, pruning, natural pest control
- Maintenance of compost system
- Grass cutting and general maintenance around the garden areas to create a tidy, aesthetically pleasing site
- Assist in the maintenance of on-site trails
- Diagnose problems, damage and disease in plants & trees
- Assisting with the preparation and loading of trees and materials onto the trucks for delivery to other locations

**Qualifications and Requirements**:

- Training and/or education in Horticulture, Urban Forestry, Arboriculture or related discipline
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence
- Skid Steer/mini-excavator operation experience
- 2+ years of experience in a landscaping position preferred
- Strong knowledge of plant care and plant identification

Part-time hours: 37-44 per week

**Salary**: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
