**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Provides for personal care in accordance with established policy, physician’s orders, the resident plan of care and within the scope of practice of a PSW
- Contributes to and follows a plan of care to meet residents’ assessed need
- Is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records of personal care delivered
- Demonstrates a professional working knowledge of all equipment used in the delivery of nursing care
- Follows all corporate policies and procedures
- Seeks direction from the RPN and/or RN when resident need exceeds experience or scope of practice
- Observes, reports, records resident conditions and follows care plans as directed by the RN and/or RPN
- Assists in maintaining an environment appropriate to meet residents individualized needs

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- This is a permanent part time position based on 30 hours biweekly
- May work with aggressive or cognitively impaired residents
- Interacts with families, staff, and volunteers

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:

- Must possess certification as a Personal Support Worker through a recognized College or educational institution
- Consideration will be given to those with a valid Health Care Aide Certificate
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

**EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE**:

- Demonstrated experience in a long-term care setting is preferable

**SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES**:

- Proficiency in interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficiency with MS Office suite, including Word, Outlook, internet use and computerized documentation
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
