Applications are being accepted for a Clinical Bioinformatician in the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PaLM), London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University (Western). This position has an initial duration of two years, with the possibility of extension afterwards. The Clinical Bioinformatician will be accountable to the Laboratory Manager, the Head of Molecular Genetics and the Head of Cytogenetics.

The LHSC Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, including Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics, is a state-of-the-art diagnostic facility, performing constitutional and somatic genetic testing both regionally, as a provincial reference site, and nationally. The lab currently employs 45 staff and utilizes classical (Sanger, RT-PCR, genotyping, karyotype and FISH) and state-of-the-art molecular technologies including panel and exome NGS testing (Illumina, Ion Torrent), and microarray (CNV and methylation) platforms.

Reporting to Manager, Molecular Diagnostics, the Clinical Bioinformatician will:

- Perform bioinformatics analytical and development projects related to clinical genomics data analysis (NGS, Array)
- Maintain laboratory internal databases of genetic variation, and supporting clinical and scientific literature databases.
- Participate in development of variant annotation and reporting pipelines.
- Participate in genetic test development and development and implementation of new technologies, with opportunities to contribute to academic activities and research projects.

Temporary Full - Time

Rate of Pay: $39.92 per hour to $49.89 per hour

Duration: 2 years

**Qualifications**:

- PhD in molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, or related field
- Knowledge and extensive experience in use of bioinformatics programing languages and biostatistics
- Data management expertise (including scientific, genetics/genomic and/or medical data)
- Experience working with human genetics data in research or clinical setting
- Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills
- Proven excellence working in a team environment with strong interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate, develop and maintain effective relationships within healthcare teams
- Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to manage change in a dynamic environment (work assignment, procedures, priorities)
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

**Immunization Requirements**:

- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
