Boat Rocker Media is an independent, integrated global entertainment company that creates, produces, and distributes premium scripted, unscripted, live action and animated kids and family content for all platforms, manages top global talent, and develops and monetizes brands and intellectual property.

**The Role**

Boat Rocker Media is seeking an experienced

**Primary Responsibilities**:

- Oversee business and legal affairs functions related to the Company’s Canadian productions, including all phases of development, structuring, negotiating and drafting production, international distribution, international co-production deals, and related ancillary agreements.
- Provide counsel and assistance on U.S. based productions as needed.
- Negotiate and draft IP licensing agreements, talent deals, broadcast license and distribution agreements, equity agreements, interim financing agreements.
- Liaise with agents, broadcasters, distributors, funding agencies, guilds and tax credit authorities.
- Provide strategic advice to creative and production executives on clearance issues, talent guild matters, funding agency requirements, and legal and regulatory matters, and advise on general legal and corporate matters.
- Supervise and train members of the business and legal affairs team and collaborate with other senior leaders in the business and legal affairs department.
- Maintain awareness and understanding of the latest developments in the law as they relate to the development, production and distribution of content.
- Coordinate with and manage outside legal counsel on various legal matters, if applicable.

**Qualifications**:

- Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 10+ years of relevant entertainment/media industry experience
- Significant management ability and experience vis-à-vis other business affairs professionals.
- Extensive experience in transactional television production and distribution deals
- Expert knowledge of the Canadian funding environment including CAVCO and provincial tax credit regulations, CMF guidelines, and Telefilm co-production treaties.
- Experience with production financing (including interim financing) and recoupment modelling.
- Expert knowledge of Canadian guilds (WGC, DGC, and ACTRA) and union regulations, working knowledge of US guilds (WGA, DGA and SAG-AFTRA) and related legal trends and business practices.
- Ability to top-line issues for senior executives and producers on a daily basis and communicate in a clear, concise and succinct manner.
