**Position: Nutrition Specialist**

**Job Type: Permanent**

**Location: This position will begin at the Bowmanville Program, but will be hired for the whole CELC Durham team.**

**Hours: 30 to 40 hours per week. Monday to Friday, hours vary between 7 am to 6 pm.**

**Rate of Pay: $20.34**

**Anticipated Start Date: September 5th, 2023**

**About the role**:
At Compass ELC you will work as a Nutrition Specialist alongside some of the most passionate, caring, and dedicated educators in the industry. You will spend your time planning, prepping, and cooking nutritious and delicious meals and snacks, in accordance with the Canada Food Guide, Ministry of Education, and Compass Early Learning and Care policies and guidelines. You will model and grow a perspective of equity and strive for a deeper understanding of cultural awareness. Hours will be based on program needs and funding. You will work 30 to 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, hours may vary between 7 am and 6 pm.

**Some accountabilities associated with the role include**:

- Planning, prepping and, cooking nutritious and delicious meals and snacks.
- Collaborating with a dedicated and passionate team of nutrition specialists.
- Preparing menus and food with consideration to children’s food allergies and sensitivities
- Drafting and preparing seasonal menus in consideration of the Canada Food Guide, Ministry of Education, and Compass ELC policies and guidelines.
- Building and maintaining relationships with families and including them in the learning process.
- Building and maintaining relationships with staff, volunteers, students, community partners, and school staff, including principals, custodians, and teaching teams in shared spaces.
- Working as part of a team with fellow Co-workers, Families, Community Partners, and Children.
- Ensuring the safety of staff and children by learning and acknowledging all children’s diverse needs, backgrounds, and creating equitable opportunities for all children to engage.
- Demonstrating respect for spaces by ensuring the safety and cleanliness of all equipment, furniture, and materials.

**About you**:

- You are passionate about nutrition and have experience cooking for large groups. You are energetic, creative, and resourceful, enjoy interacting with children, and are comfortable engaging with children and families.
- Possess a valid food handlers Certificate
- Has experience working/volunteering with children and youth.
- Has at least 1 year of experience with nutrition, meal planning, and cooking.
- Experience cooking in congregate settings.
- Possesses the training and documents required by the Ministry of Education, Compass Early Learning and Care, and the Child Care Early Years Act to work in a child-care setting:

- Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Updated immunization records (Or a signed and notarized refusal of affidavit or medical exemption).**Skills and Qualifications**:

- Is familiar with the Child Care Early Years Act, and licensing standards in a childcare program.
- Is passionate about nutrition and has experience cooking for large groups
- Has experience working/volunteering with children and youth.
- Possesses the training and documents required by the Ministry of Education, Compass Early Learning and Care, and the Child Care Early Years Act to work in a childcare setting:

- Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
- Updated immunization records (Or a signed and notarized refusal of affidavit or medical exemption).

Possess a valid Food Handlers Certificate as well as the training and documents required by the Ministry of Education to work in a childcare setting.
