Job Summary:
The Communications Manager will be responsible to provide management and support to the
Communications Team while overseeing all projects to ensure they are in-line with SLFNHA'S expectations.
The Communications Manager will oversee and manage the website, intranet, social media platforms and all other internal/external communications. The Communications Manager will work collaboratively with the
Director of ICT for all things regarding media relations, including media inquiries and press releases. The
Communications Manager will work with SLFNHA managers and collaboratively develop and distribute external and internal communications.

Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment)

Applicants must possess:

- Post-secondary diploma or degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, graphic design, or related field
- Minimum five years work experience in a communications position or related field. Previous

Management experience is preferred
- Solid understanding of the media landscape, including regional/provincial/national publications, television, radio, trade magazines and more
- Knowledge of local, regional, national current events and politics that affect the First Nations in the

Sioux Lookout region
- Strong relationship building and management skills, with an ability to foster relationships with various stakeholders and partners
- Strong project management, problem-solving, strategic thinking, evaluation and analytical skills
- Exceptional organization and time-management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet strict deadlines
- Ability to speak one of the Anishinabe languages is an asset
- Knowledge, Awareness and Sensitivity of Anishinabe Culture and tradition as it pertains to

SLFNHA’s geographical catchment area is an asset
- Must be willing and able to travel
- Experience in Adobe Creative Suite would be an asset (Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop, Premiere)
- Skilled in photography, graphic design, and or/videography is preferred
- Exceptional organization and time-management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet strict deadlines
- Highly motivated and ability to work in demanding and fast-paced work environment

Roles and Responsibilities:

- Manage any and all internal and external communication initiatives.
- Develop an annual communications plan that will build awareness of SLFNHA and support the

Strategic Plan and assist with employee retention
- Work closely with all departments and managers to develop communication plans and initiatives that clearly communicate objectives that follow proper guidelines whether through materials, newsletters, website, brochures, statements, posters, annual reports, purchasing of communications hardware and software, etc.
- Supervise the Communications Team including implementing and monitoring annual communications/workplans and budget and ensuring that all communications are of the highest quality
- Prepare correspondence for SLFNHA staff to respond (as appropriate) to public/media relations inquiries. Engage in strategic media relations and build relationships with various media firms, news agencies, communities, and other stakeholders
- Act as a liaison between SLFNHA and the media through facilitating media interviews and requests. Support key spokespeople to ensure they are prepared for interviews and presentations on the organizations behalf
- Oversee all projects, content, publications, presentations both internal and external
- Coordinate news conferences and other media or public relations events on behalf of SLFNHA and it's key stakeholders at times
- Other duties as may be required.
