Duncan, Canada Cowichan Tribes Full time

**PURPOSE**: Reporting to the Fisheries Manager, the Security Guardians will provide protection to Cowichan Tribes’ property, buildings, assets, personnel and community. The role will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a high visibility presence to prevent any inappropriate, unauthorized or illegal activities. The Security Guardian will patrol sites, respond to inquiries / concerns, interact with community members, create daily reports or logs and collaborate with the RCMP and Duncan security guard personnel. These are five (5) full-time permanent unionized positions that require extensive local travel and must be able to work a variety of shifts to meet the operational requirements of the program.

**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS**:Cowichan Tribes offers an excellent benefit and pension plan available after successful completion of the probationary period. The position includes paid training, paid vacation and paid sick leave. Depending on experience, the position starts at $23.02 - $24.42 per hour ($41,896.83 - $44,439.16 annually).

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Inspect and monitor of Cowichan Tribes buildings to prevent theft, property destruction, violence or safety violations
- Patrol Cowichan Tribes community to deter violence and other criminal activity
- Respond to intruder alarms at Cowichan Tribes’ designated sites and building complexes
- Identifying any suspicious or dangerous activities that might be detrimental to the safety of the community and premises
- Respond to inquiries / concerns; provide professional services and interactions with community members
- Perform after-hours access control duties
- Create daily reports or logs and collaborate with the RCMP and Duncan security guard personnel

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:_**(please attach all required documents)**_
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- 2-3 years of experience working as a Security Guard or relevant position
- Valid BC Security Worker License required
- Class 5 BC Driver’s License and satisfactory driver’s abstract required
- Effective December 1, 2021: full vaccination against COVID-19 is required to be eligible for employment at Cowichan Tribes. Employees must show Proof of Vaccination as a mandatory condition of employment

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**:

- Ability to work a variety of shifts including day, evening, nights and weekends
- Ability to physically carry-out the requirements of the position: manipulate / lift up to 45 lbs., climb stairs, stand, foot patrol, frequent sitting, kneeling and or stooping
- Knowledge and understanding of public safety and security procedures or protocols
- Ability to maintain composure and strong decision-making skills in high-stress scenarios
- Ability to collaborate and work respectfully with external resources
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong sense of ethics, integrity, and confidentiality
- Self-motivated to learn new tasks and work with mínimal supervision
- Time-management with the ability to multitask
- Knowledge of Cowichan culture, protocols, teachings, language, and community
- Knowledge of Cowichan Tribes customs, land, culture and traditions or a willingness to learn
