**What is CanAssist?**

**Position Description**

Reporting to the Employment Program supervisor, the Job Coach is responsible for delivering one-on-one and group-based skills training in in-person and virtual settings, both at CanAssist and other partner locations. This process involves supporting participants at all stages of the hiring process, determining the participants’ employment goals, and facilitating job placements that honour their specific needs. Additionally, the Job Coach is available to provide on-site support during work experiences, while encouraging independence, developing job support aids, and establishing natural supports with supervisors and coworkers. Due to the varied nature of the participants’ work schedules and availability, the Job Coach must be flexible and willing to work evenings and on weekends.

**Responsibilities**

As a Job Coach, you will...
- Give ongoing and person-centred support and mentoring throughout all stages of the program
- Lead workshops for participants with diverse learning needs in one-on-one and group-based settings, both in person and virtually. These workshops will focus on practical skills building. The in-person workshops are typically held at CanAssist, with the possibility of them being held at partner locations.
- Assist participants in identifying skills, abilities and interests, and developing employment goals
- Support participants in creating a strong resume and cover letter
- Support participants in preparing for interviews and requesting workplace accommodations
- Provide on-site/virtual job support
- Review physical locations to identify physical barriers and accessibility needs
- Support participants in accessing and using assistive aids and technology
- Connect with employers and develop ongoing relationships
- Assist with development of program curriculum and marketing

**Required Skills and Qualifications**
- Relevant Bachelor’s Degree, or equal combination of education and experience. (E.g. in Social Work, Psychology, Child and Youth Care, Education, Disability Studies, Social Sciences, etc.)
- Working knowledge of social barriers facing people with disabilities and mental health challenges
- Experience working directly with vulnerable populations (e.g. people who identify as having a disability and/or mental health challenge)
- Demonstrated ability to coach and support individuals through compassionate communication and active listening
- Excellent time-management (e.g. task completion and follow-up).
- Excellent organization (e.g. keeping within a timeline)
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal)
- Skills in Outlook and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

**Desired Skills and Qualifications**
- Experience in community engagement considered an asset
- Knowledge of one or more of the following considered an asset

1) Universal Design for Learning

2) Trauma-informed practice

3) Anti-oppressive peer support

Currently, this position involves working in a hybrid model with some days at home and some days at the University of Victoria, however, in-office work may become more frequent as required. You must be comfortable working virtually through various online platforms to facilitate client and staff meetings. While working from home, you will be provided with a laptop, and a monitor if required.
