**Position Overview**

The Volunteer Co-ordinator develops, coordinates, and evaluates the volunteer programs and services in the Long-Term Care Division. The Volunteer Co-ordinator recruits, screens, trains, evaluates, and supports volunteers and volunteer programs.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

Volunteering Recruiting and Screening
- Recruit, screen, and select volunteers, determining their suitability in relation to the program’s needs.
- Develops volunteer role descriptions and policies that reflect the needs of the program.
- Evaluate risks and assign volunteer roles.
- Conduct interviews and arrange for reference checks as required in legislation and policy.
- Provide orientation for new volunteers, co-ordinate and maintain educational and training programs for volunteers.

Volunteer Management
- Co-ordinate and monitor the activities of volunteers on an ongoing basis.
- Gather information and requests from Elders, staff, and quality assurance program to develop roles and responsibilities that reflect the Mission, Vision, and Values of the Division
- Promote volunteering through Volunteer Fairs, announcements, media, schools, community groups, service clubs and personal contacts.
- Organize the volunteer program to respond to the Elders’ identified strengths, needs, and wishes.
- Provide potential volunteers a tour of the program/setting and provide information regarding opportunities available.
- Maintain organized documentation, contact lists and statistics for all aspects of the volunteer program and provide regular reports on the volunteer program and initiatives to the Community Services Supervisor.
- Regularly evaluate the work performed by volunteers.
- Be familiar with all emergency procedures and fire safety policies.
- Keep up-to-date on all policies and procedures, memorandums, and in-services, ensuring these are communicated and implemented as appropriate.
- Maintain communication with volunteers using a variety of communication tools.
- Attend educational workshops related to Volunteer management.
- Assist with scheduling, organizing of recognition of volunteers including one major appreciation and recognition event annually.
- Liaise with the auxiliary/AEC Advisory Committee.
- Participate by representation or in person in the Volunteer Co-ordinators’ Association for Sarnia-Lambton.

General:

- Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed.
- Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis.

**Qualifications**

Minimum Formal Education
- One-year of post-secondary education in a related field.

Experience
- Good interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge specifically related to screening, assigning and management of volunteers.
- Volunteer management experience is preferred.

A valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
