_**Position Overview**_

The Youth worker is directly responsible for engaging youth of various ages for youth-led programing.

The essence of the work is to offer a wide range of community-based programming to enhance the health and wellbeing of youth. This work will be done through after-school programs and drop-in programs but may also include secondary programs such as gender specific groups, recreational activities groups and outreach programs.
- **Responsibilities and Duties**:_
- Connect and engage with youth ranging from 13-18 years old
- Coordinate, plan, and book youth programming with youth-led approach, including evening, and weekend activities to engage all Youth.
- Develop and work within a budget for the programs.
- Plan and supervise activities
- Guide and mentor inappropriate behavior of youth that may occur.
- Build a rapport with community resources, organizations, and community members to develop new opportunities for the youth through workshops.
- Research youth opportunities, services, and programs in surrounding area.
- Assisting in connecting youths with necessary and appropriate programs and services both at request and in a proactive/preventative manner.
- Available for varied shifts to accommodate youth availability and activity schedule including days evenings and weekends.
- Ability to engage youth in meaningful authentic discussions to explore topics that are relevant to youth development. (Suicide, sexuality, bullying etc.)
- Establish strong, healthy, and appropriate relationships with youths as well as a positive relationship with parents and guardians through communication
- Serve as a positive role model and support for youth as needed
- Post updates and program related information on the
- Develop activity calendars, permission slips and other administrative materials needed for the youth program.
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor, Manager, Director
- **Training, Education & Experience**_
- Post-secondary education in Social Work, child/youth care/human services or another related field is preferred.
- 1-3+ years’ experience working with in a childcare/ youth setting is required
- Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s license minimum and Class 4 Driver’s License is an asset or willingness to obtain.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check.
- **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**_
- Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó: lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset.
- Exceptional attention to detail, high level initiative and excellent follow up skills
- Experience and understanding of trauma-informed practices
- Ensure that safety and legal guidelines are adhered to.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Policies and Procedures.
- Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset.
- **Working Conditions**:_
- Working in an indoor office environment
- Must have the flexibility to working days, evening and weekends or a combination based on the needs of the community.
- Physically able to participate in up to four-hour hikes and other recreational activities.
- Hands-on delivery of programs with children, youth, and elders
- **Terms of Employment**:_
- Employee signs a standard form contract of employment.
- To ensure the health and safety of all employees and members of the community we have adopted a mandatory vaccination policy
- If no exemption applies, deductions will be made at source according to law.
- If applicable, employer contributions will be made at prescribed rates to CPP, EI, WCB and vacation pay.

Pay: $30.48-$34.31 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
