Reporting to the Coordinator, Wastewater Compliance, the Wastewater Compliance Technician is responsible for duties related to the operation of the Wastewater Compliance Laboratory, and participating in the City of Brantford s sampling and spill response programs to ensure compliance with Provincial legislation and Municipal By-laws. Duties included but are not limited to:

- Sampling and monitoring of various discharges to the municipal storm and sanitary sewer systems
- Clean and maintain sampling/flow monitoring equipment on a regular basis and maintain parts inventory as required
- Perform various lab analyses on sanitary and stormwater samples received in the lab and submit samples to commercial laboratories as required
- Prepare standards and reagents for use in the laboratory and maintain all chemical and laboratory equipment inventories as required
- Maintain accurate records and ensure all laboratory QA/QC protocols are being followed on a daily basis
- Respond to common sewer use issues regarding concerns from residents or other agencies and departments to ensure safety of the environment and compliance with regulations
- Participate in an 24-hour on-call duty rotation as required by the spill response program
- Update Standard Operating procedures applicable to the Wastewater Compliance laboratory and maintain a current inventory of SDS reports
- Provide technical assistance regarding lab processes, procedures, or certification activities as needed
- Ensure all safety equipment is inspected and maintained on a regular basis
- Any other duties related to Wastewater Compliance as assigned

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Applicants must have successfully completed a two (2) year community college program in Environmental Technician or equivalent
- Applicants must have a demonstrated knowledge of standard laboratory techniques to complete laboratory analysis accurately and in a timely manner with mínimal supervision
- Applicants must be able to meet the physical requirements inherent in wastewater sampling; lifting maintenance access covers and sampling equipment weighing up to 20 kg
- Applicants must be able to work outdoors and drive in potentially adverse weather conditions
- Applicants must be able to follow technical procedures, traffic and other safety procedures and maintain acceptable housekeeping practices at all times
- Possess a valid Class 'G' driver's license in good standing during the course of employment

**WAGE/SALARY RANGE**: $32.98 to 35.08 (35 hours per week).
