**POSITION OVERVIEW**
We have an opportunity for a regular full time Clerk Typist within the Investigations unit in the Police Services department. This position performs moderately complex clerical work in providing a variety of support services to the section head and or NCO of the Serious Crime Unit and to operational members of various investigating sections. The Clerk Typist - Investigations prepares a variety of materials, such as verbatim transcriptions and confidential correspondence; sorting, compiling and distributing court and legal documents. This position requires initiative in planning the sequence of duties and the work methods used.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
Completion of Grade 12 including or supplemented by word processing and business/commercial courses, plus sound related experience within a policing environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
Thorough knowledge of business English, writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Thorough knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, software systems and related equipment.
Sound knowledge of RCMP rules, regulations, methods and procedures as such relate to the work performed.
Working knowledge of Federal laws and statutes as such relate to work performed.
Ability to perform a variety of typing and clerical assignments with a high degree of accuracy, and to maintain strict confidentiality of same.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to receive and relay highly confidential messages to RCMP members.
Ability to operate police information systems and equipment as required. Ability to work calmly under pressure, without supervision

**LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES**
Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Security Clearance.

**HOURS OF WORK**
Hours of work are governed by Schedule “B” (M) - based on Article 12.01 which may, at the discretion of the Commanding officer of the RCMP or his/her duly appointed representative, work any seven (7) hours between the hours of 7:00 am and 12:00 midnight, Monday to Sunday, inclusive, with shift differential as per Article 14.10. When shifts are changed, or positions hired, employees in the positions will be given shift preference on the basis of seniority.
