They deliver financial planning and analysis through financial modelling, scenario analysis, budgeting, forecasting and other analytics. This role collaborates with teams across operating divisions to consolidate and analyze results; and supports standardization and performance across the organization.

Reporting to the Finance Manager of Operations for Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards, the Financial Analyst I play assists with various financial activities and analysis. The role collects, analyzes, and interprets financial data to provide insights and recommendations to management for informed decision-making. This role will interact regularly with senior finance professional individuals and management in Engineering and other groups.

**What you’ll do**
- Assists in the preparation of financial reports, labour report and finance statements by collecting the data and providing insightful information and metrics.
- Assists with annual budgeting process and quarterly forecasts for both operational overhead as well as chargeable project hours by collecting previous years actuals and providing recommendations.
- Runs weekly labour reports and providing analytical commentary.
- Conducts variance analysis against budget and forecast to identify key drivers of financial performance and to assess budgetary compliance.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure all aspects of a project or initiative are considered.
- Working closely with teams from different departments such as operations, Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, and others, to use their expertise and insights to inform financial decisions and strategies.
- Assists in the development and report of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) by collecting current actuals and calculating the metrics. Performs additional ad hoc analyses and other duties as assigned.

**What you’ll bring**
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or Finance.
- Minimum of 2 years of accounting and financial analysis experience.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to prepare a variety of financial statements, reports and analysis.
- Strong understanding of accounting concepts.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong organization and time-management skills.
- Intermediate computer skills, advanced Excel skills.
- Strong communication skills. Ability to communicate (read and write) effectively in a business environment.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills. Ability to get along well with diverse personalities and be a team player.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Knowledge and experience in Canadian ASPE GAAP and related financial reporting requirements.
- Detail-oriented with analytical skills.
- Knowledge of month-end close processes.
- Knowledge in ERP systems (JDE or equivalent) and BI tools (SAP BI, Power BI or equivalent).
- Proficient in MS-Office (Excel /Word/Outlook/PowerPoint).
- Customer service orientation, self-starter and initiative driven.
