**Title: Vegetation Technician**

**Job Purpose**

**Key Job Functions & Responsibilities**

Key duties include but are not limited to the following:

- Work in collaboration with environmental specialists and the Project Lead to coordinate the execution of the program.
- Independently monitor and inspect the vegetation management Contractor to ensure works are being conducted in accordance with the Integrated Vegetation Management Plan (IVMP).
- Manage time efficiently to carry out the vegetation management program with limited oversight from the Vegetation Management Team.
- Conduct pre
- and post-treatment assessments of vegetation management sites, including detailed and accurate record keeping of vegetation management activities.
- Provide treatment recommendations to address invasive/noxious plant infestations, including providing direction to the Contractor on herbicide usage and associated restrictions.
- Ensure project deliverables meet technical requirements as defined by applicable law and client expectations.
- Independently collect, input, organize and analyze data, and plan field activities, including coordination of the Contractor.
- Anticipate and communicate when a task cannot be completed on time and develop solutions to such issues with involvement from the management team.
- Urban and remote field work on utility corridor between Burnaby and Hope, BC. Workdays may extend to 12-hours and may include occasional weekend work during treatment activities.

Key outcomes include but are not limited to the following:

- Projects are executed in a collaborative manner with the Vegetation Management Team with a focus on organization, efficiency and effectiveness working as a Team.
- Inefficiencies and quality issues are identified, analyzed and remedied in collaboration with the Vegetation Management Team.
- Clients are satisfied with project deliverables, timelines and expenditures.
- All field work and reporting deliverables meet technical requirements as defined by McTavish quality standards.
- Field work is carried out in a safe and effective manner that meets the project scope of work requirements.
- Effective relationships are maintained internally and externally.

**Job Requirements**

Requirements for the role of Vegetation Technician are provided below:

- Minimum two years of related post-secondary education preferred. Direct relative experience may also be taken into consideration.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to provide direction to field-based crew members.
- Demonstrated organizational skills to coordinate completion of project deliverables.
- Plant identification skills including invasive/noxious species.
- Understanding of environmental sensitivities as they pertain to vegetation management activities.
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation related to pest management in BC.
- Experience carrying out vegetation management activities considered an asset.
- Experience coordinating contractors considered an asset.
- Experience on industrial construction or remote worksites considered an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel etc.)
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- Must be located in the BC Lower Mainland.
- Must have a reliable vehicle to access utility right of ways and forest service roads.
- Relevant certifications are considered an asset (training will be provided otherwise)
- Valid BC Pesticide Applicator Certificate (Industrial)
- WHIMIS
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods
- S-100 Fire Suppression
- H2S Alive
- Standard First Aid and CPR (Level I)
