**Job Summary**:
This position provides epidemiologic expertise related to infectious disease, through the identification of significant health issues and patterns in the community involving the collection of data, development and maintenance of surveillance systems and analysis of health databases.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Investigate and provide surveillance on infectious diseases, including outbreak detection, investigation and analysis
- Carry out research, analysis and reporting on the distribution and determinants of health-related states and events in the community and make recommendations to the Health Department and Region, including consideration of broad contributing factors to infectious disease such as climate change
- Report on health issues and patterns with community health status reports, surveillance reports, interactive dashboards, and GIS maps
- Develop work plans, track projects/consults, provide on-going updates to the Manager & Senior Epidemiologist, mitigate risks, manage expectations, and ensure client satisfaction
- Lead program reviews, evaluations, surveys, and the development of performance indicators
- Collaborate with community partners, researchers, and provincial committees on relevant public health issues
- Supervise and mentor analysts and/or students, on a project by project basis
- Provide expert epidemiological advice and on-going program planning support, primarily to Directors and Managers, and assist in identifying priorities in their program areas
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Skills & Qualifications**:
**Essential**
- Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or Public Health (with a focus on epidemiology) combined with at least three (3) years’ experience working in a community-based epidemiology role, preferably within a Health Department.
- Meaningful experience with infectious disease work is required.
- Expert knowledge or advanced training in statistical software packages (e.g. Stata, SPSS, R, SAS) and experience with geographical information systems (GIS), advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of communicable and non-communicable disease epidemiology, program planning & evaluation, biostatistics and research methodology is required.
- Knowledge and experience in using Public Health reporting systems and databases such as iPHIS and Cognos is important.
- Strong skills in political acuity, diplomacy and tact and well-developed interpersonal and facilitation skills are required to interact and consult with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are also needed to prepare and present reports.
- Requires an ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously and meet multiple deadlines.

**Preferred**
- Experience using PowerBI is an asset.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

- Flexibility to work outside of core business hours including evenings, weekends and holidays is required to assist with surveillance, outbreaks, and/or manage emergency situations in our community when they occur is also required.
