Air Canada is Canada's largest airline, the country's flag carrier and a founding member of Star Alliance, the world's most comprehensive air transportation network. Air Canada provides scheduled passenger service directly to 51 airports in Canada, 51 in the United States and 88 internationally. It holds a Four-Star ranking from Skytrax. Air Canada's Aeroplan program is Canada's premier travel loyalty program, where members can earn or redeem points on the world's largest airline partner network of 45 airlines, plus through an extensive range of merchandise, hotel and car rental rewards. Its freight division, Air Canada Cargo, provides air freight lift and connectivity to hundreds of destinations across six continents using Air Canada's passenger flights and cargo-only flights with its fleet of Boeing 767-300 freighters. Air Canada has committed to a net zero emissions goal from all global operations by 2050.
We have an innovative legal and compliance team, comprised of more than 80 dedicated professionals, that participates as business partners to support Air Canada's strategic objectives. **Profile Sought**
- representing employers, employees, or unions before courts, tribunals and governmental authorities in grievances and other proceedings; and**Responsibilities of the Role**
- Representing Air Canada in labour arbitration (both in traditional and expedited formats), and in litigation before the Courts as well as the Canada Industrial Relations Board and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal or their provincial counterparts.
- Drafting and reviewing correspondence and hearing documents (briefs, witness statements, written arguments, motion records, settlement documents, etc.).
- Gathering and reviewing the information necessary to respond to inquiries, complaints and grievances.
- Advising on collective bargaining matters and supporting bargaining teams in reaching advantageous agreements.
- Providing advice on a variety of employment law related matters to internal clients.
- Preparing training materials and delivering training to internal clients on labour, employment, and human rights matters.
- Maintaining and updating the tools and templates used by the Labour and Employment team.
**Qualifications**
- Member of the Bar in at least one of the Canadian provinces or territories
- Minimum of two to five years of labour and employment practice in a law firm or in a large corporate environment with a track record of success providing legal advice and counsel on a broad range of issues.
- Knowledge of federal labour law and procedure.
- Strong business sense.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and French. A writing sample may be requested.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Strong negotiation and advocacy skills in grievance arbitration, labour board proceedings, and employment related litigation.
- Experience in arbitration, human rights tribunal proceedings, and judicial proceedings preferred.
- Facility with Adobe, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, QuickLaw, Westlaw, and other online legal research tools.
