**Job description**:
This is a progressive position that requires training and demonstration to develop the role of Driver Trainer within the company. The long term objective is to assist with onboarding new hires and to train and monitor newly hired individuals to safely and efficiently operate company vehicles and equipment through a 400+ hr. company developed training program ensuring safety and assurance compliant with Ministry, DOT and Insurance standards.
Yager Bros. is looking for an individual who is able to work with a diverse group of teammates to meet company standards and improve their professional driver skills. Please note that this is a physical driving and not an office administrator position. Other duties would include regular dispatch driving.
**Responsibilities of a Certified Driver Trainer**:
- Work closely with management to train new drivers on the equipment necessary transport of agricultural and food-grade bulk liquids to dispatched locations to Canadian and US destinations.
- Train and monitor a driver's ability to perform thorough pre and post-trip inspections in compliance of Ministry and DOT standards.
- Train new drivers to report all maintenance and required repairs to fleet supervisor in a prompt and efficient manner.
- Monitor and grade new drivers on their ability to adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while safely operating the vehicle and equipment on highways and customer sites.
- Utilize drive time with a new driver to coach and provide insight using practical teaching methods to demonstrate awareness and safe driving techniques.
- Demonstrate safe loading and unloading procedures using appropriate equipment, gauges and scales.
- Demonstrate time management and critical thinking methods when necessary ie: GOAL
- Trainer will guide the trainee through completing all documentation and time sheets to company standards.
- Trainer will assist a new driver with their e-logs to ensure full understanding.
- Communicate with management regularly to ensure that a trainee is ready for success or requires further attention in certain areas.
- Driver trainer must maintain accurate training records for each new trainee and sign off on their successful completion of a graduated driver.
**Experience**:
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a commercial driver, preferably in a similar industry or with similar types of vehicles.
- Previous experience in the capacity of Driver Trainer an asset.
- Willingness and ability to successfully pass a Driver Trainer Course to obtain certification.
- Ability to pass all mandatory Drug & Alcohol testing requirements for Canada and Clearinghouse.
- Must have or be able to obtain a valid Fastcard and Passport for border crossing.
- Proficient in operating heavy equipment with specific abilities in backing and pinning to trailers, maneuvering and backing into tight and difficult spaces like barns and commodity sheds.
- Strong knowledge of pre & post trip inspections and regulations pertaining to Schedule 1 and CTPAT inspections.
- Strong familiarity with e-logs and all CVOR requirements in compliance with MOT and DOT regulations.
**Skills**:
- Hold a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for the type of vehicle being operated.
- Clean driving record with no violations or accidents within the past 3 years.
- Ability to demonstrate the safe operations of commercial vehicles in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with management, dispatchers, customers, and other team members effectively.
- Comprehension skills to listen and understand what is being said.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate record keeping and adherence to training schedules.
- Work well with others with an ability to demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations.
- The applicant should be a non-smoker (cigarettes) as the position is conducted in an enclosed space with another individual.
