**KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS**:

- Responding to and tracking planning inquiries and follow-up.
- Supporting the Planning Technician in the development of support materials, building permit review, inquiries, and special projects as needed.
- Preliminary research and analysis on a variety of projects as requested by the Manager of Planning and Development.
- Support engagement and research for Council Strategic Initiatives, as requested.
- Material development and facilitation support for community engagement.

**JOB DUTIES AND TASKS**:

- Develop presentations for various committees and address their project inquiries.
- Be the primary point of contact for public inquiries to the Planning Department.
- Support the Planning Technician by responding to inquiries and assisting/approving building plan reviews as needed.
- Conduct Planning-related comparative research and analysis for special projects and Island wide plans, as directed by the Manager of Planning and Development.
- Support engagement efforts, the Planning department, and other departments as needed in preparing graphic, GIS and informational materials.

**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES**:

- Be self-motivated and comfortable with a wide variety of duties related to the planning function.
- Be comfortable working in a supportive and capacity building role.
- Polite, courteous and patient Planning-related customer service skills.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to deal with people in a professional manner.
- Possess a working knowledge of Provincial legislation regarding land development and be well versed in land use planning principles and practices.
- Possess extensive knowledge of planning theory and practice with a strong knowledge of community-based processes.
- Possess a good working knowledge of computers and ArcGIS software.
- Possess good organizational skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple duties with deadlines.
- Be familiar with current trends pertaining to leading edge planning initiatives (for example: town planning, rural planning, transportation planning, sustainable planning, main street revitalization, food security, watershed-based planning).
- Able to attend various committee meetings, public information meetings or other events as needed.

**REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Valid BC Class 5 Drivers License preferred.
- At least two years planning experience, preferably in local government, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with development permit review would be an asset.
- Meet eligibility requirements for membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Work in the Planning Department at the Municipal Hall. Work hours are 8:30-4:30, five (5) days per week. May be required to attend some evening/weekend meetings upon request. Hybrid remote work may be arranged by mutual agreement with the Manager of Planning and Development.
