_**Job Description**_
The applicant will be responsible for working with a small, highly-skilled crew of water feature experts to design, install & maintain natural swimming pools, spas & water gardens for discerning residential and commercial clients in the greater Ottawa region. This position is well suited for someone who has recently graduated in a relevant field, and is now contemplating a sustainable career in the horticulture industry.
- **Responsibilities include**:_
- Assisting with planning materials, equipment and labour needs for job sites.
- Taking site measurements and levels, and making accurate calculations.
- Operating & performing routine maintenance for small power tools including: quick-cuts, chainsaws, pressure washers, pumps, carpentry & masonry tools, and light landscaping equipment.
- Operating and completing daily maintenance for heavy equipment including: CAT908 loader, CAT308 excavator & grapple, CAT299 skid-steer, and Toro Dingo mini skid-steer.
- Driving a 5-tonne rolloff bin truck.
- Installing drainage systems, excavating water features, installing natural boulder garden walls, constructing water feature basins, stream beds & wetlands, installing natural flagstone patios & stair treads, completing bed construction, grading, sodding, and mulching.
- Installing landscape lighting, pond technical components, filtration systems, pumps & plumbing.
- Installing trees, shrubs, perennials, and aquatic plants according to specified planting plans.
- **Qualifications**_
- Experience in the operation and basic maintenance of light & medium duty landscaping & construction equipment preferred.
- Strong communication skills with an appreciation for accurate and timely completion of tasks.
- Willingness to work in an apprentice style setting.
- Strong interpersonal and client interactivity skills; strong work ethic.
- Excellent health & physical fitness.
- Applicant must currently reside in Canada as a landed immigrant or a Canadian citizen.
- A passion for ornamental landscape plants, water gardens, & aquaculture.
**Education & Experience**
- High school graduate.
- A diploma or degree in the horticultural disciplines a definite asset.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in the horticultural trades.
**Skills & Character**
- An unwavering zeal for all things related to ponds & aquatic landscape design.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with a team, or independently and self-manage work load.
- Highly creative, yet focused and committed to the pursuit of excellence.
- Details-oriented and an ability to multi-task are essential.
- Excellent verbal & written communication in English a must.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and a strong work ethic.
- Must provide own reliable transportation to and from our facility.
- A valid G license and a clean driving record is required.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
**Salary**: $23.00-$26.00 per hour
