**About Us**:
The Energy Policy division is responsible for energy, mines, and minerals policy development and program design as well as energy economics and analysis. It engages with a wide variety of resource development partners including various levels of government, industry, and a wide spectrum of Alberta communities and Indigenous Peoples.

The Energy Information and Analysis branch delivers energy statistics and business information and provides economic analysis of Alberta’s energy resources, investment, energy and industry trends, and energy-related projects and policies. The branch is responsible for monitoring energy markets and prices and preparing some of the Government of Alberta’s official energy price forecasts.

The Specialist, Energy Markets supports the department’s technical capacity to deliver on priority mandate items. In addition, they will need to establish consistent and ongoing communication with other business units and stakeholders, employ appropriate project planning techniques on all business unit activities, and mentor other analysts in the team for professional growth.

The Specialist will provide expert advice on (but not limited to):

- Economic analysis and regular monitoring of Alberta’s key energy natural resources markets, including oil, natural gas, natural gas liquids, and refined products.
- Developing price forecasts for natural gas, natural gas liquids, and/or oil in collaboration with the other analysts on the team.
- Providing regular reporting and responding to ad hoc information requests on a wide range of topics, including upstream, midstream, and downstream energy industry developments and their implications for markets generally and for Alberta specifically.
- Providing a wide range of advice and analysis related to energy policy development in Alberta with a view towards advising on the market impacts of policy options specifically and the economic effects of policy options on the energy sector generally.

**Qualifications**:
University graduation in a related field (economics, business, engineering, or other related fields) and minimum of 6 years of related experience in Economic analysis and operation and decision-making processes of energy industry. An understanding of provincial, national, and international issues, trends, and drivers of key energy markets is also required for this position.

Equivalencies may be considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

Assets:

- Background knowledge in engineering, geology, accounting, or other fields related to the oil and gas industry.
- Knowledge relating to electricity and critical minerals markets.
- Experience programming in R, Python, or a comparable statistical data analytics programming language.

**Salary**:
$3,030.81 to $3,993.15 ($79,121 - $104,221/year)

**Notes**:
Hours of work are Monday - Friday 36.25 weekly.
