Parent Seed Agronomist

**Parent Seed Agronomist - Full-Time Position**

HyTech Production Ltd. is an independent seed production company based in Lethbridge, Alberta with additional operations in British Columbia, Washington State, Montana, Oregon, Arizona and Chile. HyTech is an industry leader in providing seed production services to plant breeders and seed distribution companies from around the world.

HyTech is seeking a Parent Seed Agronomist to join our current team in the Okanagan based out of the Vernon area. The main purpose of a Parent Seed Agronomist is to manage and execute all field actions related to the production of high generation seed lines. The main goal is to produce seed that meets or exceeds our standards and expectations. To provide guidance, confident advice, solid agronomy and any assistance necessary to produce seed crops of the highest quality and yield. This all being performed and managed with the highest of integrity and safety practices in mind. Responsibilities may include:

- Work with, and developing relationships with growers
- Choosing fields that fit specific criteria for seed production, such as crop rotation, isolation, and proper volunteer management
- Calibrate planters to proper seeding rates, and depths
- Manage an irrigation schedule to help with crop emergence, and good plant stand establishment
- Scouting fields for insect, weed, and disease pressure
- Managing pollen flow between the males and females and making recommendations
- Oversee placement of pollinators, flowering timing
- Ensuring fields are rogued in a timely manner (volunteer rogueing, or off-type rogueing), when needed
- Execute timely male removal
- Executing swathing or desiccation of the fields
- Assure equipment is clean and ready for use (swather, combine, augers, bins, etc.)
- Keeping an accurate record of field actions
- Managing shipping logistics and seed cleaning
- Assisting with production activities in Arizona, Washington and Canada, when needed
- Contra season assistance in Chile, when needed

**Qualifications**
- A valid driver’s license.
- Strong agronomic knowledge obtained through pursuance of an Agriculture degree/Diploma or through Agriculture experience
- Attention to detail
- Experience or familiarity with seed production.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A willingness to work outdoors and extended hours at times
- Experience operating farM/Field equipment would be an asset

The position is full time and compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications.

**Salary**: $50,000.00-$80,000.00 per year

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability

Supplemental pay types:

- Bonus pay
