Nature and Scope
The Summer Day Camp Counsellor will report through the Summer Camp site Director and is responsible for delivering a fun, safe and positive experience for a group of 8-13 children. The camp counsellor is instrumental in ensuring positive experiences for participants, delivering high quality mission-based programs; responsibilities will also include planning portions of the daily schedule. Counsellors will follow all YMCA policies and procedures and child protection guidelines.
Work Schedule
- Seasonal; Monday-Friday June 17th, 2024- September 1st, 2024; 8:00am-5:00pm (shifts may vary).
- Attends and fully participates in all pre-camp trainings and staff meetings.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provides direct supervision to a group of children and youth every day and ensures each camper has an incredible experience.
- Plans and delivers fun, age-appropriate programs following specified program guidelines.
- Builds rapport and manages group behavior to ensure an emotionally and physically safe environment.
- Ensures the delivery of high-quality camp programs while ensuring well-being and safety of campers.
- Enthusiastically participates in all camp activities, including all programs and special events.
- Recognizes the uniqueness and interests of all children and youth and assists them to successfully achieve their goals at camp.
- Accesses program resources and seeks support from Coordinator to ensure the delivery of a wide range of age-appropriate programs for children and youth.
- Demonstrates the ability to maintain and deal with sensitive and confidential situations with professionalism.
- Complete reports as required (attendance, incident etc.).
- Acts as a positive role model for children, youth, and fellow staff.
- Models’ appropriate behavior in all interactions with co-workers, other YMCA staff and the public, ensuring behavior always aligns with YMCA core values.

**Requirements**:

- Must be at least 16 years of age within this calendar year.
- Minimum 1 years of experience in planning and leading programs for children and youth.
- Experience working within a summer day camp or residential day camp program is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Effective conflict resolution skills.
- Strong teamwork and leadership skills.
- Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’ prior to the first day of camp.
- National Lifeguard Certificate an asset.
- Must have a current and valid police record check with vulnerable sector screening.
