We are looking for enthusiastic and committed board members to serve on the Fairview
Resource Centre’s board

**What is a board?**
A board of directors is the governing body of a nonprofit. The members of a nonprofit board focus on the high-level strategy, oversight, and accountability of the organization.

As a board member you can help with tasks such as advising on marketing and communication strategies, helping with fundraising, and using connections, networks, and resources to help us reach the organization’s mission. You will be expected to prepare for, attend and actively participate in board meetings (Second Wednesday of the month at 6:00- 8:00 pm).

**Minimum Requirements**:

- Time availability for board duties (approx. 3-5 hours monthly).
- Passion for the goals and values of the centre
- Commitment to cultural diversity and inclusive practices/opportunities
- This is a in-person opportunity so you must be able to attend meetings in Halifax, Nova

Scotia

**Optional Skills That Would Be an Asset**:

- Knowledge of not-for-profits and fundraising.
**-Any experience with marketing, social media, and public relations.**:

- Previous board experience.

**Description**:We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed board member to serve on the
**Fairview Resource Centre**’s governing body. The board member's responsibilities include offering advice on policies and programs related to accessibility, diversity and inclusion, assisting with building partnerships, and performing special projects as assigned. You will be expected to prepare for, attend and actively participate in board meetings (Second Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm).

The FRC is committed to representing the communities we serve: Indigenous people, African
Nova Scotians, new Canadians/immigrants, persons with disabilities, and persons with varied sexual and gender identities. Members of these groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

**Board Member Requirements**:

- Sufficient time availability for board duties (approx. 3-5 hours monthly).
- Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to cultural diversity and inclusive practices/opportunities
- Familiarity with and commitment to the goals and values of the Centre
- Ethical framework

**Skill(s)**:

- Collaboration, communication/public relations
- Strategic thinking
- Experience with accessibility, equity, diversity and inclusion
- Previous board experience is an asset but not required.
- Knowledge of the FRC and/or not-for-profit industry

**You will be expected to**:

- Prepare for, attend and actively participate in board meetings
- Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
- Serve as an advocate and ambassador for the organization and assist with identifying partnerships to advance the organization’s mission.
- Participate in one or more committees and the annual general meeting.
