Host/hostess

Located in the heart of Downtown Markham, Kiu is a concept that was created with the intention to showcase high quality fresh ingredients presented with fundamental Japanese cooking technique while offering warm and inviting hospitality. Guest of Kiu Japanese restaurant will enjoy a versatile dining experience that strives to be memorable.

The host/hostess will work with the dining room manager and support in planning and updating the dining room to efficiently coordinate the seating of the dining room throughout each service.

Position is available for part time employment or on call basis.

Key Responsibilities:

- Create a welcoming and hospitable environment for guests.
- Exhibit professionalism and care when speaking to guests and communicating information.
- Properly answer guest inquires with regards to restaurant hours of operation and basic operational information, menus and reservations.
- Ensure constant communication with staff members, management and the kitchen during service.
- Quote accurate wait times to guests during service.
- Assist the dining room manager in seating guests, checking coats and transferring open bar tabs to the appropriate guests or tables.
- Have a working knowledge of basic Tock functions required for use during service. This includes but is not limited to status changes use of waitlist function, guest searches and reservations.
- Demonstrate the ability to make reservations following the guidelines outlined in the training manual.
- Working knowledge of phone system etiquette and operations.

Relevant Knowledge, skills & abilities:

- Good communicator; ability to understand, speak and follow written and verbal instruction in

English.
- Attention to detail and well organized
- Team oriented
- Interest in food and hospitality

Education/Experience:

- High School diploma
- Smart serve an asset
- Ability to stand or walk for up to 10 hours a day
- Ability to balance and carry multiple plates, glass racks and/or glasses
- Language: English fluency and additional languages preferred
