**About the Role**

Reporting to the Green House Manager, the Greenhouse Operator will be responsible for completing regular production and harvest of crops, including cleaning and maintenance duties in a new, year-round indoor commercial greenhouse and hydroponic system producing fresh, locally grown lettuce, leafy greens, and herbs. The Greenhouse Operator will be responsible for following instructions and procedures while ensuring we deliver the highest-quality product to our customers under our **Akamihk Fresh** Brand.

Priority will be given to members of the First Nation who meet the qualifications and job requirements outlined below.

Located at Montana First Nation, Alberta, Akamihk Kanataskiy Ventures is excited to share with you the freshest, best-tasting lettuce, leafy greens, and herbs available in Alberta. We operate a 100% Indigenous-owned, year-round state of the art hydroponic food production system and commercial greenhouse that produces and mínimally processes fresh lettuce, leafy greens, and herbs.

**Who You Are**

You are handy: You are mechanically inclined, even though you might not know the specific details of growing hydroponically or working in a commercial vegetable greenhouse. You like to tinker with tools and/or technology and you enjoy solving problems of a mechanical or technological nature. You have a green thumb and a strong interest in locally grown food.

You’re a lifelong learner: You pick up new skills quickly and readily and you’re excited to expand your skills by learning new technologies and food production systems.

You are adaptable and comfortable with the unknown and are comfortable with growing beyond your comfort zone.

**What You’ll Do**

**Greenhouse Operations**
- Regular cleaning and maintenance of the greenhouse and equipment.
- Aid in deliveries and/or sales of produce as needed.
- Complete regular operating tasks in the greenhouse, including seeding, growing, harvesting, and packaging of produce.
- Always follow standard operating procedures and the training you have been provided, including abiding by all safety and good agricultural practices.
- As you become more familiar with the technology, you may be asked to aid in identifying or troubleshooting issues that may arise, including of a mechanical or horticultural nature.
- Participate in training, including training on the technology, food safety and general worker safety. Implement what you have learned in your training in your daily work.
- Maintain appropriate records and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications / Job Requirements**
- Understanding of technology and/or agriculture industry is an asset.
- Ability to work independently without supervision and confidence in making educated decisions.
- Effective reading and writing skills - English a necessity, Cree is an asset.
- Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Demonstrated experience following instructions and procedures.
- Proven track record of working effectively in teams.
- For deliveries: Must have a valid driver’s license and comfort driving a small delivery van/truck.
- Must be able to lift boxes up to 50 lbs with assistance, climb small step ladders, and work full shifts on your feet.

**Assets (but not required)**
- Certificate or training in agriculture, horticulture, or related field.
- Experience with growing vegetables or other plants.
