**_About the position_**
As a Bridging Futures Facilitator, you will help First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FMNI) high school students by developing a career plan, building career-related skills and providing the opportunity to explore a variety of industries.
The focus is to ensure smooth transitions of high school students to a career or academic path and introduce a range of options. You will do so by developing connections with students to be proactive in their future paths and prepare them to make the transition from high school to higher education.
In this position, you will remove the barriers to future success and facilitate career planning. We are looking for someone who can develop and implement career strategies to improve a student’s transition into the workplace and into related post-secondary programs. **_ Responsibilities_**
1. Post-secondary education preparation
- Work with students to learn about specific career options requiring additional education.
- Provide support in transitioning to post-secondary institutes.
- Participate in quarterly vertical team meetings with school staff to develop action steps to improve individual student and subgroup transition success rate.
- Provide post-secondary orientation and skill readiness.
2. Career preparation
- Work with students to learn about specific work options and to identify career paths.
- Assist individuals in the development of individual career plans.
- Partner with organizations and local businesses to facilitate career opportunities.
- Develop and deliver career related workshops for students to increase their knowledge of options possibilities.
- Coach students in building career related skills including public speaking, leadership, teamwork and networking.
- Work with students to create a portfolio including resume and interviewing techniques.
- Facilitate career internships with partners to enable student to further explore possibilities.
3. Life skills preparation
- Plan and collaborate on the development of programs with a team that includes administrators, teachers, advisors. counselors, social workers and/or any other relevant service providers.
- Model and coach students in personal interaction including teamwork, creativity, communication skills and self-advocacy and healthy life choices.
4. Academic support
- Mentor, guide and support students within a cultural context which values significant relationships.
- Facilitate advanced leadership skill development with a focus on post-secondary readiness.
5. Develop relationships
- Establish relationships with students through modeling, mentoring, advocating and one-on-one meetings.
- Connect individual students and their parents/guardians with community organizations and programs.
- Engage families to participate in the student’s growth.
- Develop or work with local mentoring programs, business and community agencies to connect individual students with mentors.
- Provide support and outreach to parents/guardians of students.
- Work with students to begin the process of developing transition and career action plans to meet academic and post-secondary goals.
6. Life skills and wellness
- Model and coach students in healthy life choices.
- Develop and deliver life skills programs to provide youth access to cultural teachings, leadership development and connect youth to community resources.
- Increase knowledge of well-being and healthy lifestyles.
- Build an awareness of factors affecting personal well-being - diet, exercise, drugs, etc.
- Provide tools and support to develop, maintain and enhance personal well-being.
- Provide tools and support in dealing with grief, loss and anxiety.

**_Qualifications_**
- Degree or diploma in Native Studies, Career Counseling, Education or related area, plus three years of directly related experience.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture; fluency in Cree is an asset.
- Knowledge of program development best practices, particularly in the area of employment and vocational programming.
