About the role
The Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing Bulk and Non-bulk Transportation operations, including driver management, fleet compliance, and maintenance. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, you will work closely with various departments to ensure smooth operations and adherence to safety standards. You will lead transportation efforts to maximize efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster customer satisfaction.
Position Responsibilities- Foster a workplace culture of quality, performance, and professionalism.- Set clear expectations and provide leadership, training, and coordination to drivers.- Work with the maintenance team to ensure equipment compliance with DOT, MTO, Transport Canada, and CSA standards.- Ensure timely completion of preventive maintenance and equipment inspections.- Conduct weekly inspections and occasional ride-alongs with drivers.- Maintain up-to-date permit books for all vehicles.- Monitor and provide feedback on electronic logging systems.- Analyze budget requests, sales, activity reports, and performance data to identify opportunities for cost reductions and operational improvements.- Manage employee performance, fostering growth and development within the transportation team.- Oversee driver qualifications, road tests, and new hire onboarding.- Coordinate customer pick-up and delivery schedules.- Knowledge of RPRA.- Safety and Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, regulatory standards, and environmental requirements.- Budget and Cost Management: Monitor operational costs, optimize routes, and manage resources effectively to achieve cost efficiencies.- Operational Efficiency: Use transportation management systems.- Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring timely deliveries and managing service expectations.- Waste Classifications: Understand and ensure compliance with various waste classifications (e.g., hazardous, non-hazardous, and universal waste) and regulatory handling procedures.- Equipment Expertise: Knowledge of the proper operation and handling of tankers, trailers, and walking floor trailers, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations for transporting waste, liquids, and materials.- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications- Three plus years relevant experience- Excellent written and verbal communication skills- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail- Knowledge of CSA scores and regulatory compliance (DOT, MTO, Transport Canada)- Familiarity with hazardous, non-hazardous, and universal waste management
Preferred Qualifications- College Degree or certification in Logistic Supply Chain Management (preferred)
Physical Demands of the Role- Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb- Ability to lift/carry 50lbs- Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces- Qualify to wear a full-face respirator- Consistently work in various weather conditions
