The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) (formerly known as the Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Review Office) provides impartial oversight of compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Privacy Review Officer Act, the Municipal Government Act and the Personal Health Information Act. The OIPC delivers its mandate by conducting investigations and mediations of complaints and reviews, issuing formal public reports, developing educational materials and providing independent advice on access and privacy matters at the request of public bodies, municipalities and health information custodians.

**About Our Opportunity**:
As the Director, you will be responsible for a team of Investigators, who are accountable for oversight and risk management responsibilities and are delegated statutory authority of the Information and Privacy Commissioner to conduct complex and specialized formal access and privacy investigations to carry out such duties necessary for the investigation of compliance with the Freedom of information and Protection of Privacy Act, Privacy Review Officer Act, Part XX of Municipal Government Act, the Personal Health Information Act and all related Regulations.

The Director is considered an integral senior member of our access and privacy team. This position reports to the Executive Director.

**Primary Accountabilities**:
Some of the primary accountabilities in the role include:

- Maintaining a case load of complex investigations.
- Directing, monitoring, and supervising the case file management workloads for respective team by developing and reviewing casework policies, procedures, and standards to ensure provision of quality and timely resolution of casework.
- Ensuring the effective management of human and financial resources by setting and evaluating staff performance targets, conducing hiring activities, promoting diversity and a healthy workplace, demonstrating the leadership competencies, respecting corporate human resources practices, promoting teamwork and individual development, and maintaining internal communication.
- Assessing the appropriateness of case settlements to ensure they are based on the principles of administrative fairness, are reasonable, and adhere to the OIPC policies and procedures by reviewing investigation case files, approving case plans/analyses as prepared by the Investigators and conducting investigations; settling access and privacy matters through formal mediation; and reporting case information to the Executive Director.
- Contributing to the content of the Annual Report, Accountability Report and Business Plan, and implementing strategic plans by providing expertise and recommendations to the Commissioner and management staff related to the planning and delivery of services in order to promote compliance with the Acts.
- Enhancing the delivery of provincial and municipal government programs and services to the public pertaining to the Acts by implementing OIPC policies, procedures and guidelines and developing strategies/methods for the identification, investigation, and resolution of systemic issues.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a related university or college degree (i.e. law, public administration, law enforcement, information management, political science), as well as several years of investigator experience in a related field. An acceptable equivalent combination of experience and training in a legal, policy, research or oversight environment may be considered.

You must have exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) with a proven ability to employ discretion and deal appropriately with confidential documents. Excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize, employ discretion, and deal appropriately with confidential and secret documents is also essential.

The following would be considered an asset:

- Experience in managing a team.
- Experience implementing the Freedom and Information and Protection of Privacy Act and/or the
- Personal Health Information Act and/or evaluating compliance with FIPPA/PIPA.
- Experience applying, evaluating, and/or assessing policies and procedures for the principles of administrative fairness and natural justice.
- Experience or training in conflict resolution, alternative dispute resolution and mediation.
- Formalized training in access and privacy laws.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
