**Role Responsibilities**:
As the Director of Geotechnical and Utilities Engineering, you will direct the development of standards, specifications, guidelines and best practices for geotechnical, roadside development and utility issues, and some aspects of materials engineering. You will provide expert advice to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in matters involving complex roadside development, utility, and geotechnical issues. You will ensure that geotechnical designs are cost-effective, adopt appropriate risk management values and adequately address risk to the public and infrastructure.

Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

- Developing geotechnical standards, best management practices, and expertise within the Department.
- Working with regional staff to raise awareness of geohazards and ensuring regional staff assigned to geotechnical projects are fully engaged and informed to meet the often unique aspects of geotechnical project delivery.
- Initiating, directing and reviewing external consultant designs to ensure they are adequate and effective, in the context of geotechnical cost and risk management.
- Providing expert advice on roadside development topics such as highway signage, Highway Vicinity Management Agreements (HVMA), Highways Development and Protection Act (HDPA) issues and access management issues and hot topics.
- Providing input into and developing standards, practices and policies for utility topics (related to telecommunications, electrical, oil and gas, water and sewer utilities); utility relocation and payment agreements, HDPA, pipe materials, crossing permits, geotechnical requirements, utilities within the right of way, cross-jurisdictional pipeline approvals.
- Chairing the TEC Innovation Evaluation Group (new product committee)
- Informing product suppliers/manufacturers of requirements for inclusion on Products List, inform same regarding removal from product list.
- Managing the monitoring and assessment of geohazard sites, for which there are currently approximately 250 sites, with a combined liability of more than $250 Million.
- Directing and encouraging geotechnical designs to be innovative and leverage new technologies when practical.
- Managing the budget for the Geohazard Risk Management Program.
