**Job Summary**:
Salary Under ReviewReporting to the Manager Homelessness Operations, the Shelter Supervisor is responsible for on-site homeless shelter operations, dedicated to supporting homeless individuals with complex needs. The Supervisor will manage and co-ordinate activities of staff from the homelessness sector to assist in meeting service needs of homeless individuals, referring clients to appropriate services and to be supporting housing outcomes.
**Education**:
- Post-secondary Degree in Social Services, related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current certification in First Aid/CPR
**Knowledge**:
- Minimum 3 years supervisory experience in a shelter
- Minimum 5 years experience working with marginalized peoples and/or people who are homeless or who have been at risk of becoming homeless
- At least 3 years’ experience in a human services environment working with multiple social/community agencies
- Experience working in a unionized environment an asset
- Non Violence Crisis Intervention Training an asset
- Naloxone Training preferred
- An understanding of/or demonstrated practice of anti racism/anti oppressive practices
- An understanding of Housing First Principals and homelessness best practices
- Knowledge and utilization of a client centred trauma and harm reduction approaches
- Proficient computer skills
- Working knowledge of HIFIS an asset
- Written and verbal communication skills sufficient to perform documentation and related administration duties
**Responsibilities**:
- Supervises and oversees shelter operations to ensure successful client outcomes_. (40%)_
- _Supervises low barrier and trauma informed shelter services for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness with high acuity needs, and ensures that the services are provided according to the policies and procedures_
- _Adapts a team approach, working in coordination with homelessness service system and other care providers (e.g. primary care physicians, mental health and addictions providers)_
- _Regularly reviews all pertinent documentation relating to residents, staff, agency and shelter property_
- _Ensures property issues are addressed (e.g. damages of units by client)_
- _Facilitates case conferences, in complex cases, with various community agencies_
- _Responds appropriately on client issues in accordance with departmental policy and other legislation_
**_Supervises staff, coordinating and planning work, providing work direction, assigning tasks and projects, determining methods and procedures to be used, monitoring quality of work, resolving problems and ensuring assigned results are achieved in conjunction with the Manager. (30%)_**:
