As the Activity Aide, you will provide meaningful and purposeful activities to residents to stimluate their senses and enrich their lives with joy.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Develop, plan and provide meaningful and purposeful activities for residents to enjoy living in Retirement and Memory Lane home areas
Assist the Director of Activities with the planning and running of events and outings
Plan and provide one to one activities for residents who do not participate in group activities
Take and track resident’s attendance to activities which include both group and any one to one activity provided
Perform an assessment of all new resident’s as to what interests and things that bring enjoyment to the resident. For resident’s living with dementia; investigating their past life prior to coming to Queens Village to assist Nursing Team identify possible triggers that may trigger responsive behaviours and interventions that may help manage those responsive behaviours.
Assist in the development and updating of a resident’s care plan with regard to activity
Assist the Director of Activities in the development of monthly activity calendar
Any other duties as per the supervisor
**Additional Responsibilities**:
Handle resident complaints within the scope of the role
Participate in the home’s mandatory training program, quality improvement initiatives and any staff development
Assist Director of Care liaison with outside vendors and entertainers
Assist supervisor and direct volunteers
Assist residents with personal care (toileting) for activities that occur outside of Queens Village
**Job Requirements**
Current Police Clearance - Vulnerable Screening
Current TB Screening
Proof of Vaccination being fully vaccinated with an approved COVID vaccination
Must be willing to work Fridays, weekends and holidays when required
**Ideal Skillset**
Passion working with seniors and comfortable working with seniors living with dementia
Energetic
Warm and outgoing
**Preferred Requirements**:
Recreation Therapy certificate from an accredited institution.
GPA or Formal Dementia Care Training
Experience working with a population living with dementia
