Our open-pit mine and concentrator in Voisey’s Bay - Vale’s only fly-in/fly-out operation in Canada - produces nickel-cobalt-copper concentrate and copper concentrate. An underground expansion will see a transition to a leading edge underground mine extending the life of the mine until 2034. Our state-of the-art facility in Long Harbour is the first nickel processing plant in the world to use hydrometallurgy technology to produce Plating Rounds TM from hard rock (sulphide) concentrate, with low carbon footprint compared to traditional smelter technology. A team of employees across the province provide support to the Newfoundland and Labrador Operations.

**Our Team**

The Vale Health and Safety team is a vital part of Long Harbour Operation. Together, we monitor, check, and continually improve our health and safety systems to create an environment where we can all successfully achieve zero harm and go HomeSafe.

**The Opportunity**

We are currently seeking a **Health and Safety Advisor **to join our **Health and Safety team **in **Long Harbour, NL. **This is a **permanent **position working on site at our Long Harbour Operations.
- Provide proactive safety and health leadership by example
- Participate in the development of safety and health guidelines, standards, targets, and procedures, and ensure these are effectively implemented
- Complete reports required by regulating agencies to ensure operations for the area of responsibility stays in compliance with Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health and Safety
- Stay up-to-date with applicable government regulations
- Perform area inspections - management, external and internal with the safety group and internal with the site OHS Committee
- Perform system audits - isolations, permit to work, standards and regulations, etc.
- Mentor and coach HomeSafe
- Address and advise on safety and health issues for specific assigned areas of support
- Develop work practice - from draft to final version, communication and training program review
- Report on statistics - month end, monitoring of trends
- Develop safety and health training
- Coordinate inspections and record of maintenance, etc., for safety equipment
- Perform workplace monitoring in accordance with site occupational exposure monitoring program
- Liaise with Newfoundland and Labrador OHS representatives

**About You**

**Education**
- A minimum of a Post-Secondary Education
- Technical Certification, Occupational Health and Safety Program is considered an asset
- Professional Safety Designation is considered an asset

**Experience**
- 5 - 7 years in a field safety and health role, or
- 5 - 7 years in a supervisory or leadership role overseeing safety sensitive work in an operations environment with critical risks

**Knowledge & Skills**
- Working knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
- Computer safety systems and incident management systems knowledge
