The Intake Worker will assist individual’s and families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred to, The Salvation Army

**Hours**:

- 40 hours/week
- 8:30-4:30 PM Monday-Friday

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Conducts initial intake assessments determining immediate needs and support needed by each client
- Partners with team and leadership to offer emotional & spiritual care, using every opportunity to share the love of Jesus with clients/families,
- Through exercising empathetic care, assists individuals to determining an appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal process, facilitates effective problem-solving behaviour of the client family
- Provides emergency assistance services (i.e. Housing, shelter, food, clothing, etc.) In accordance with the policy
- Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate client files and statistical records
- Assists in the organization, maintenance, and general cleanliness of the community ministries offices
- Receives and/or declines and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations
- Networks and refers to the salvation army, government and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program, whenever necessary
- Represents the salvation army as an active member of local task force and supports outreach opportunities and partnerships
- May develop and conduct workshops for clients/families, as appropriate
- May organize other seasonal or special programs (i.e. Christmas hamper, toy distribution, summer camps, community events, food drives, community dinners, emergency disaster services etc.)
- Performs other duties as assigned

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:

- _NOTE: For some jobs, you may be required to provide validated educational documentation. _
- High school diploma
- Some post-secondary certification is an asset (social work, psychology, Community Social Service work)
- FoodSafe certification is an asset
- Current certification in First Aid/CPR

**Experience**:

- At least 2 years of prior related experience, including experience working with multi-barriered persons

**Required Skills/Knowledge**:

- Strong computer and interpersonal skills are an asset
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
