**Grocery Category Manager**

Summerhill Market is a boutique grocery store chain in Toronto that specializes in scratch-made prepared foods and on-trend ingredients. Our stores go above and beyond a typical grocery store by offering an extensive rotating selection of ready to eat gourmet meals, freshly baked goodies, and curated hard to find groceries.

**Position Summary**

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Category Manager is primarily responsible for leading the merchandizing, product assortment and category management efforts to drive the Summerhill Market aesthetic throughout the Grocery, Dairy & Frozen departments and maximize sales. The Grocery Category Manager will work closely with Retail Operations, Category Management, Warehousing and Marketing to delivery an optimal shopping experience for customers, meeting strategic goals, promoting continuous improvement, and addressing any obstacles. The Category Manager will engage with new and existing vendors/suppliers and remain up to date with industry trends to maintain a competitive advantage.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Manage Grocery Retail Merchandizing and Category Management to ensure the Grocery, Dairy & Frozen departments have an optimal product assortment and creative displays to create a positive shopping experience for customers
- Guide, direct and evaluate Grocery Operations to ensure that all stores exemplify the organization’s aesthetic, meet goals/targets, are profitable, and provide customers with the optimal shopping experience
- Liaise with the Director of Operations, Store Management, Marketing and Ecommerce Teams to create seasonal marketing plans based on industry trends, competitor activities and customer feedback
- Deploy effective merchandizing strategies and build attractive displays to maximize product accessibility and increase revenue
- Maintain a pulse on external market conditions, our customer value proposition, pricing strategy and industry trends to maintain a competitive advantage
- Establish a competitive pricing strategy based on wholesale data and negotiating with vendors/supplies to maximize the value of our offerings
- Track inventory levels, sales, and product distribution to ensure that the stores are carrying an effective assortment of product to meet customer’s needs and drive sales
- Coordinate with the warehouse to plan orders, coordinate product arrival times and establish item locations in the stores
- Embody Summerhill Market’s organizational values as a people leader and support the training, development and coaching/mentorship of top talent
- Attend industry conferences, trade shows, major networking events, etc., to represent the organization
- Additional duties as required

**Skillset Requirements**:

- 5 years+ of senior leadership experience in a Store or Category Manager role within the grocery industry
- Post-secondary degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, or relevant field is an asset
- Knowledgeable effective marketing practices with the ability to develop merchandizing plans, pricing strategies, promotional campaigns, etc., that reflect a solid understanding of our customer base
- Creative, out-of-the-box thinker with a keen eye for detail and the ability to deliver Summerhill Market’s aesthetic in all displays
- Strong negotiation skills; able to leverage our employer brand and buying power with vendors/suppliers
- Results driven, sales orientated and able to develop budgets, policies and procedures to maximize profitability
- Strong research analytic skills; able to strategically review trends and optimize product assortment
- Excellent communication skills with the ability deliver concise information and establish consensus, building meaningful relationships with internal employees and external vendors/suppliers
- Tech savvy; proficient in MS Office, experience with a variety of ERP tools and the ability to learn new systems quickly
