**Your role at GEI.**
GEI is seeking respected professionals who aspire to have a positive impact on GEI s growing design team and are interested in working collaboratively with a talented team of design, management, and technical leaders. GEI will provide a unique opportunity to collaborate across multiple practices to successfully deliver hydrogeological, geotechnical and environmental design/engineering solutions for our clients in the Ontario Market.
The Canadian operation of GEI is expanding in the Ontario market and GEI is looking for a hydrogeologist to join our existing technical team working on projects across Ontario and expand our environmental and hydrogeological engineering services. To provide flexibility, this opportunity can be physically based out of Barrie, Kitchener, Markham, or remotely. GEI s earth sciences practice in Ontario is predominantly based out of Barrie, and an expectation would be to be present for 1 to 2 days per week in the Barrie branch office to promote in-person collaboration with the team.
**Primary Responsibilities**:
- Perform hydrogeological engineering tasks such as field investigations, soil and groundwater sampling, well monitoring and in-situ testing, analysis (site and feature based water balance, dewatering, hydraulic conductivity), and calculations under supervision of a senior staff.
- Direct preparation of technical reports, memos, and analysis following appropriate federal, provincial and municipal regulations and guidelines.
- Supervise, direct, train, and mentor junior staff and technicians, including review of field notes, technical reports and analysis prepared by junior staff and technicians.
- Collaborate with the geotechnical and environmental staff on joint projects, as well as collaborate with and support other GEI teams (e.g., environmental monitoring; environmental impact assessment; ecological restoration design; geostructural, municipal, etc.) on various projects.
- Provide hydrogeological modelling input/support to Senior Water Resources Engineer for site and feature-based water balance studies.
- Aid in marketing and business development activities, including development of client relationships.
- Periodically monitor activities in the field.
- Promote health and safety in all aspects of work.
- Ability to spend time in the field, depending on experience level/project specifics.
**Qualifications**
- Bachelor s or Master s degree in hydrogeological, environmental or related field.
- Four (4) to six (6) years of hydrogeological experience in Southern Ontario.
- Experience in hydrogeological modelling for site water balance and for retained and created feature based (wetland) water balance analyses would be considered an asset
- Experience in hydrology, wetland evaluation/monitoring or environmental services (Phase 1 ESA, Phase 2 ESA, RSC, remediation, excess soil management, etc.) would be considered an asset.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) in Ontario.
- Knowledge of relevant Ontario Regulations (e.g. OWRA, O. Reg. 387/04, O. Reg. 63/16, etc.), Conservation Authority and Municipal guidelines, etc.
- Understanding of industry standard practices and processes.
- Experience with groundwater testing (in-situ permeability tests, pump tests, etc.), sampling of groundwater and associated chemical analysis, groundwater monitoring and mitigation plans, hydrogeological analysis (water balance, LID, construction dewatering, etc.), groundwater and surface water monitoring with pressure transducers, etc.
- Valid driver s license with access to a personal vehicle.
