We are hiring a Technical Specialist, Packaging. This person will have a technical background and mindset to oversee the packaging program, analyze and work through problems, write technical reports and work with suppliers. This person is used to working on problems and defects that impact the business and will be extremely detailed and action oriented.
This is an onsite role based at our Grimsby location.
ROLE SUMMARY
- Responsible for the management of non-conformance resolution for packaging related incoming materials.
- Supports the Senior Technical Specialist Team (ICB and VQA) with the execution of projects.
- Participates in the development and final approval of packaging incoming materials.
- Responsible for the management of Packaging print specifications including labels, stelvin, cask, closures etc.
- Reviews documentation for accuracy, completeness and compliance requirements to ensure that quality assurance standards and regulatory requirements are met.
- Maintain understanding of processes and functional interdependencies.
- Participate in the HACCP internal auditing program.
- To perform other assigned duties as necessary within the realm of the Quality Services Department.
- Follows safe work procedures and practices and reports all unsafe working conditions/hazards to their reporting Manager.
- Assist with the development of Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ensures compliance to Regulatory (Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Occupational Health and Safety Act, VQA, LCBO, etc.) and Andrew Peller policy compliance for self and team members
RESPONSIBILITIES
Incoming Materials Non-Conformance Management
- Responsible for the management of incoming material non-conformances including communication and technical report to the vendor and APL stakeholders.
- Responsible for the management of incoming material and finished goods audit requirements including sampling plan development.
- Responsible for final root cause and resolution of packaging related non-conformances.
- Interfaces with Sales or Customer Service (or other groups) in problem resolution, and continual improvement.
- Support product quality failure investigations and define the investigational strategy.
Product/Package Development
- Responsible for the Product/Package Development Print Information Process within the scope of the Quality elements. This includes new specifications, label positioning, specification approvals.
- Assists with the technical and plant trial testing for all package, product and process projects related to Innovation as well as for problem solving initiatives.
- Responsible for the development and presentation of package and product technical reports.
- Participates in the end-to-end support of innovation packages, products and process.
- Supports the development of creative and functional packaging prototypes and ensures the functionality of the packaging concepts through testing, analysis and commissioning of the full-scale trial.
- Responsible for assisting in the material specification development including the measurement and test requirements.
- Supports the commissioning, testing and analysis for all packages, products and processes.
- Supports the execution of projects for process, package and product improvement and innovation.
- Responsible for participation in the internal auditing of the Food Safety HACCP program.
- Coordinates and supports progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations.
- Responsible for participation in all health and safety initiatives.
Research & Development
- Support competitor market research on packaging and provide recommendations on trends.
- Assist in the development of new concepts.
Vendor/Supplier Management
- Supports the Senior Technical Specialist, Innovation in the technical aspects of end-to-end innovation, processing, packaging, and warehouse functions.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with all external vendors and improve efficiency process through incorporation of new technology.
- Recommends and implements modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
- Support product quality failure investigations and define the investigational strategy.
Health & Safety
- Follows safe work practices and procedures and reports all unsafe working conditions/hazar
