**The Program**

The Ksisskstaki Ikamotaan targets Indigenous youth aged 12 - 24 years. The program provides advocacy, support, and mentorship for Indigenous youth who are struggling with a variety of social and emotional issues including current criminal involvement or criminal behavior, addressing unhealthy risk-taking, school challenges, strained or negative family and peer relationships. Youth are provided with the necessary support to develop conflict resolution skills, to address day-to-day challenges, and to make appropriate choices which allow for positive contributions to family, school, and community. Youth will be reintroduced to their Indigenous culture through various traditional ceremonies, elder support, and cultural education and engagement.

**The Position**

This is a Full-Time, 40 hours per week 12-month contract position where you will be reporting to the Team Lead. The Indigenous Youth Advocate will work in an integrated, trauma informed, and collaborative way with the Community Outreach Services Team, wider CJHS Team and the community to ensure that clients enhance their coping skills, are connected to appropriate resources in the community, foster positive natural support relationships, and develop pro-social skills to engage positive change. This includes advocating for clients with community services such as education, employment, justice, and leisure including traditional cultural connections and connecting clients to traditional Indigenous practices and elder connections; supporting youth in healthy family and peer engagement; and assisting with short
- and long-term goal planning.
- Solid case management and interpersonal skills
- Crisis prevention/intervention skills
- Demonstrate strong connections to the Indigenous community, culture, and practices.
- Knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice System
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline (i.e., human services, child and youth care, etc.)
- Brain Story Certification considered an asset.
- A current criminal record check (CPIC) and Child Intervention Check are required (within the past six months).
