In partnership with Toronto Preschool Speech and Language Services, Lead Agency Surrey Place, Macaulay is one of five Toronto agencies delivering a range of services to enable pre-school children to achieve optimal communication potential.

This position will provide speech and language intervention services for children between birth and six years of age, consistent with practice standards and professional ethics of the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Provides expertise to the speech and language service by developing and/or implementing appropriate interventions with preschool children displaying behavior problems, developmental delays, medical and physical challenges and other special needs.
- Follow documented treatment plans and protocols to address communication needs of preschool children and provides direct intervention on an individual or group basis for children.
- Develop speech language materials under the direction of speech language pathologist to be used in child’s treatment program.
- Provide consultation to parents, family members, community personnel and other caregivers on specific interventions and programs.
- Conduct group programs and educational workshops for parents and caregivers on pertinent speech and language topics independently or in a co-leadership model.
- Provide information, education and consultation in the area of preschool speech and language issues to community organizations, agencies and public forums.
- Maintain up-to-date recordings and other administrative requirements in accordance with agency policy and TPSLS guidelines.
- Document client performance, including tallying data for Speech Language Pathologist(s) to use; preparing charts records or graphs to supervising Speech Language Pathologist.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Post graduate diploma in Communicative Disorders and Member in good standing with the Communicative Disorders Assistants Association of Canada (CDAAC)
- Experience working with infants, toddlers and preschool children, including working with children with special needs is an asset, and specifically possessing knowledge and experience in the area of preschool language delays and disorders.
- Skills in the provision of group work and consultation are required, as is the ability to work in a team setting and understanding and acceptance of parent involvement and client-centred approaches.
- Knowledge of the community, relevant community resources and awareness and sensitivity to cultural and racial differences within the community are required.
- Intermediate computer and word processing skills required.
- Sound clinical judgment, problem solving and decision making skills in combination with sound analytical abilities are essential.
- Frequent contact with families and external professional of other disciplines (i.e. education, psychology, social work, psychiatry, medicine, etc) requires professional judgment and discretion at a high level.
- Knowledge of child development and skill in operationalizing treatment interventions including behaviour management techniques.
- Must have excellent interpersonal and strong oral and written communication skills, with an ability to demonstrate patience and flexibility.
- Ability to respond to direction and openness in reviewing work.
- Ability to work cooperatively and as part of a team, yet able to work independently in the community.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with parents/families, colleagues and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities and identities
- Must have excellent time management skills and demonstrated initiative, as well as the ability to consistently meet deadlines.
- Able to work (some) evenings and weekends to accommodate service delivery
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle is required.
- A second language is an asset.

**SALARY**: Communicative Disorders Assistant Salary Scale ( (starting hourly rate $34.89/ $63, 506 - $70, 538 per annum) with Competitive Benefit Package (health & dental), Define Pension plan, and paid time off entitlements (starting at 20 vacation days & 3 float days).
