**The Adult Dance Instructor position includes**:

- Teaching 45 minute to 1-hour dance programs during daytime hours. Currently runs Thursdays at 10-11am. However, more classes could be offered depending on instructor availability and interest.
- To teach a low-impact Zumba style program. This could also include teaching seated dance. Instructor must have knowledge of how to modify programs for different ability and experience levels to ensure the programs meet the needs of all participants.
- All classes are at the Joe Thornton Community Centre. All supplies and materials are provided.
- Programs are for 18+ participants and are drop-in based.

**General Position Synopsis and Purpose**:
Under the general direction of the Manager of Recreation Facilities & Programs and the technical direction of the Program Coordinator, the Program Instructor is responsible for leading high quality programs providing excellence in customer service. This position leads high quality recreation including sports, dance, arts and crafts and nature-related activities. Overall, this position plays an integral role in supporting the delivery of comprehensive and enjoyable programs and ensures the safety and wellbeing of program participants.

The Program Instructor will perform all activities in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.

Program Support & Implementation (80%)
- Assists in planning and organizing and is responsible for implementing and leading high quality recreation activities that are age-appropriate ensuring participants are fully engaged and having fun in a safe environment.
- Implements and effectively follows program plans as outlined by the Program Coordinator.
- Organizes and assists with the set up and tear down of equipment before and after each lesson (as required).
- Creates a positive and enthusiastic environment for the participants.
- Possesses knowledge and ability to implement inclusive programming allowing for children and adults of all abilities to participate.
- Is a role model of City values and inclusiveness through all interactions with program participants, parents, and co-workers.
- Ensures quality assurance in the delivery of all recreational programming.
- Performs other duties, responsibilities and functions as assigned.

Health and Safety (10%)
- Maintains daily records of accident reports, injuries, incidents, and safety checks as required.
- Ensures that equipment and facilities are in safe working condition and reports any concerns to the Operations staff, Program Coordinator and/or the Manager of Recreation Facilities & Programs.
- Works in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the regulations and City policies.
- Must use or wear the required personal protective equipment, protective devices or clothing that the City requires to be used or worn.
- Reports to the Operations staff, Program Coordinator and/or the Manager of Recreation Facilities & Programs the absence or defect in any equipment or protective device of which the worker is aware and which may endanger themselves or another worker.
- Reports to the Program Coordinator and/or the Manager of Recreation Facilities & Programs any contravention of the Act, regulations or the existence of any hazard of which they are aware.
- Monitors the safety of program participants; performs periodic program area scans and enforces safety policies and procedures.
- Provides exceptional attention to Health and Safety and supervision of participants.
- Responds to and/or assists with on-site emergencies, incidents and accidents, which may involve the provision of Standard First Aid, CPR and/or the completion of an accident/incident report when required.
- Keeps program areas hygienic and clean.

Customer Service and Communication (10%)
- Maintains daily written records of attendance.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and a professional and positive attitude when communicating to participants, parents, co-workers and the general public.
- Debriefs with the Program Coordinator following the completion of the sessions to review program effectiveness.
- Assists with the distribution of program correspondence to participants and or parents, as required.
- Communicates program supply needs to Program Coordinator and/or Manager of Recreation Facilities & Programs as required.
- Builds positive relationships with parents, program participants and co-workers.
- Actively engages with participants 100% of the time in program delivery.
