This is also a community that puts you at risk for trauma, compassion fatigue, burnout, and compound grief. You will witness traumatic events both directly and indirectly through hearing people's stories, and you will be involved in de-escalating violent situations with other members of your team. It’s essential that you are someone who regularly accesses a personal support network and strives to maintain health through activities and resources that ground and inspire you.

**The Role: Pastoral Building Manager**:
The Pastoral Building Manager’s role is primarily about keeping us running smoothly and keeping our facility in tip-top shape. There are lots of people coming and going through our space, so this is an important role for us.

You’ll make sure that everything in the building is regularly maintained, and in good repair. You may not be a professional tradesperson, but you do have some familiarity with building maintenance and repair. When an issue is beyond your skills, you’ll coordinate contractors for repairs.

You’ll also keep the supplies we need on a day-to-day basis well-stocked. You’ll coordinate the ordering, receiving, and storage of supplies like paper products, food, and cleaning products.

There’s some administration in this role. You’ll make sure our staff and facility abide by laws like the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). When we need permits or inspections, or have crews of volunteers helping on-site, you’ll be the point person.

**Specifically, the Pastoral Building Manager will**:

- Be responsible for ensuring that Sanctuary’s facilities, equipment, property, and staff are clean and in good repair and are compliant with OHSA and AODA requirements
- Conduct regular basic cleaning and maintenance of building facilities and property (e.g. trash removal, mopping, etc.); coordinating with the team on bigger cleaning projects
- Where feasible, complete ad hoc building maintenance as required and fit within your skillset
- Source, coordinate, project manage, and facilitate contractor work to maintain the building, property and equipment (when requirements go beyond your skill set)
- Coordinate community projects with community members as they relate to building maintenance (e.g. painting parties with community members)
- Maintain a maintenance log of work required and completed, work with the Executive Director to prioritize projects
- Actively communicate the status of projects to the Executive Director and the wider staff team, coordinating maintenance work around various program schedules
- Manage the annual building repair budget, liaising with the Executive Director as needed
- Provide pastoral care to community members (incl. contract workers and volunteers). This includes occasional Bible study, prayer, and other one-on-one meetings

**Additional expectations for all staff members (for part-time staff, these would be adjusted accordingly)**:

- Participation in community drop-in meals (Tuesday lunch and Thursday dinner)
- Walking outreach (where schedule allows)
- Community care (e.g. helping clean someone’s appointment, where schedule allows)
- Engagement in regular self-care practices and trauma-informed therapy
- Participation in weekly all-staff meetings and two annual staff retreats (typically offsite)
- Participating in training on anti-racism, anti-oppressive
