SGI Environmental Impact Assessment Practitioner / Project Manager

One year term with potential for renewal

Sipekne’katik has developed and launched an independent self
- governing consultation process. The Sipekne’katik Governance Initiative Secretariat (SGI) carries out the consultations on behalf of its members. The SGI Consultation Protocol requires a focus on Aboriginal title, Aboriginal rights of the Mik'maq and Mik'maq treaty rights.

The Project Manager will have support from the Rights bases assessment team, legal and senior management. Must have a strong understanding in environmental impact assessment process and knowledge and understanding or willingness to learn about Mikmaq rights, Mikmaq communities and Mikmaq governance structures.

**Responsibilities**:

- Responsible for managing impact assessment projects and other natural resource related studies
- Working with the Sipeknekatik leadership and community through workshops, reports, studies and development of public relations and education tools.
- Working with Canadian federal, provincial, and regional legislation and policies relating to aquatic and terrestrial environments, and to rely on your demonstrated experience navigating Federal Environment Assessment processes.
- Planning, coordinating and executing mandates related to environmental impact studies, other forms of environmental assessments and environmental screenings, environmental permitting and authorizations.
- Managing projects related to renewable energy, transportation, industrial development, infrastructure, mining and oil and gas sectors.
- Evaluating Request for Proposals and prepare responses, develop work scopes, budgets and schedules, and providing project management;]
- Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.

**Employment and Experience**
- A degree in Environmental Science, Biology or a related discipline along with at least five (5) years of relevant experience conducting federal impact assessments, and managing projects involving biological studies;
- Project management skills with a demonstrated ability to write detailed technical reports;
- Understanding and or experience with Indigenous rights and communities is considered an asset.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- Open to continuous learning and professional development related to the duties
- Willingness to occasionally travel, including to remote locations and outside standard office hours.
- Must submit a satisfactory criminal record check. Having a criminal record is not necessarily a determinate factor.

Starting salary based on qualifications and experience.

**Salary**: $21.16-$46.78 per hour

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Indian Brook 14, NS: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Education**:

- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

**Experience**:

- conducting assessments and biological projects: 5 years (preferred)
