The purpose of the Employment Specialist’s position is to provide employment services across all areas of Waypoint’s Provincial programs. This role is vital in supporting Provincial clients to reach their employment and recovery goals. Staff responsibilities may include developing, implementing and evaluating skills training/employment opportunities and supporting clients in navigating the employment landscape. A keen focus on collaboration with Provincial units, the Patient/Client & Family Counsel, Provincial security and Provincial Employment Specialists is required.

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**:

- Assess client’s employment experience, functional abilities, as well as aptitude, interests, skills, motivation and commitment utilizing a series of approved techniques and/or assessment tools.
- Utilizing best practices and evidence-based practice to develop, deliver and evaluate employment services through a strength-based recovery approach, to support clients/patients to develop skills, explore, determine and achieve their employment goals and to establish their natural employment support system.
- Maintain current information regarding financial impact of training/employment to support patients/clients to make informed decisions i.e. OW/ODSP/Insurance/EI/or other benefits.
- Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate experiential simulated training modalities to support clients/patients in developing employment skills and report outcomes.
- Utilize community development practices, networking and marketing skills to engage businesses to hire clients and/or procure contracts while supporting both businesses and clients.
- Collaborate with inter-professional clinical teams by facilitating/attending pertinent meetings to promote services, discuss & review client treatment/ Recovery plans and progress; communicate verbally & in writing the assessment results, employment plans/actions.
- Actively participate in Employment Specialist meetings related to professional practice.
- Maintain all documentation to Rehabilitation Services and Waypoint Centre standards, contribute to team process including involvement in/facilitation of meetings, service planning and evaluation, special projects, client/patient satisfaction initiatives etc. Manage administration functions and report as required.

**REQUIREMEN**TS/QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Post-Secondary Education in Social Services or relevant Rehabilitation or Vocational field.
- A valid “Class G” Driver’s License in good standing is mandatory.
- Knowledge of relevant mental health legislation to ensure client rights & confidentiality, career development theory and up-to-date career development practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of rehabilitation and recovery, including assessment, goal setting, service planning, supportive counselling, crisis planning & intervention; job coaching and follow-up.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety, security and crisis intervention.
- Demonstrated knowledge of methods to assist clients facing multiple barriers to employment.
- Knowledge of and experience working with industrial machines or tools, production line work, food service, computer, bookkeeping, woodworking, re-upholstery, refinishing, laundry work, horticultural, retail or other related transferable skills.
- Knowledge of all policies, procedures and practice relative to the assigned working environment. Demonstrated interpersonal skills in order to work effectively within the department and program.
- Verbal communication skills and presentation/facilitation skills to effectively teach/present material.
- Organizational and analytical thinking skills.
- Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values (Caring, Respect, Accountability, Innovation), and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude.
- Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.
