Position Scope

This is an intermediate to senior level role for a Process Chemist with experience in R&D or industrial production processes. Reporting to the Manager, Operations Process Engineering and working within the Operations Team, you will support development and optimization of CE’s Direct Air Capture process. You will support the Process Engineering team with specialist knowledge of reaction kinetics, product synthesis and analytical methods. You will be a bridge builder, liaising with Operations Engineers, Plant Operators, Laboratory personnel and our Advanced Development group, to understand the details of the chemistry behind the process and ensure accurate and repeatable sampling and analytical measurement systems are being employed for data collection.

**Responsibilities**:
Design, execute and document experiments for technology proof-of concept and process characterization/optimization.
Provide detailed observations of experiments; compile and analyze data and clearly document results. Identify deviations with experiments, troubleshoot issues and develop solutions.
Provide insight and direction to process development and reaction kinetics characterization.
Identify critical process parameters, characterize interactions and optimize system operation.
Participate in and present to cross-functional teams for review of experimental designs, results and proposals for new processes, tests or system design concepts.
Support the Lab Supervisor with developing, refining and validating analytical methods.
Support the Lab Supervisor in designing and analyzing Gage R&R studies, and identify method/procedure modifications to improve the reliability of measurement systems.
Support the Operations Engineers in designing and validating accurate and repeatable field sampling methods and procedures to improve data quality.
Support a wide range of laboratory instrumentation and analysis/wet chemistry on in-house process analysis including IC, GC, AAS, PSD, turbidity, titrations, FT-NIR spectroscopy, as well as various external lab analyses.
Act as a bridge between the Operations and Advanced Development teams; draw advanced process research/knowledge into the Operations team in order to support process optimization.

**Qualifications**:
**Experience**: 3-8 years-experience in chemical process R&D and/or industrial production operations.

Effective use of statistical analysis and Design of Experiments to solve complex problems.
Knowledge and experience with Statistical Process Control is an asset.
Experience operating Benchtop or Pilot-scale systems is an asset.
Strong working knowledge of qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis procedures.
Organized with exceptional report writing skills, and excellent communication skills.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
