Addiction and Mental Health Specialist
**Job Summary**
The Addiction and Mental Health Specialist is responsible for providing expert support and guidance in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with addiction and mental health issues. They work closely with clients to develop personalized treatment plans, implement evidence-based interventions, and facilitate their journey towards recovery. This role requires a deep understanding of addiction, and mental health disorders, and the ability to provide compassionate care while maintaining professional boundaries.
**Key Responsibilities**
1. Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate clients' addiction and mental health needs, including evaluating co-occurring disorders.
2. Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings and client goals, utilizing evidence-based practices and therapeutic modalities.
3. Provide counseling and therapy services to individuals, groups, and families to address addiction and mental health concerns.
4. Deliver psychoeducation to clients and their families, educating them about addiction, mental health, and available resources.
5. Administer and interpret standardized assessments and diagnostic tools to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
6. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, to provide integrated care.
7. Monitor clients' progress throughout the treatment process, adjusting interventions and treatment plans as needed.
8. Facilitate support groups and educational sessions to promote relapse prevention, coping skills, and healthy lifestyle choices.
9. Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to ethical guidelines.
10. Stay current with advancements in addiction and mental health research, attending conferences and workshops to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
**Qualifications**
1. Masters Degree or doctoral degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field.
2. Licensure or certification as an addiction counselor, mental health counselor, psychologist, or relevant professional body in Canada.
3. Proven experience in addiction and mental health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
4. In-depth knowledge of addiction treatment models, evidence-based therapies, and best practices in mental health care.
5. Strong understanding of co-occurring disorders and the ability to integrate treatment for both addiction and mental health conditions.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with clients, their families, and a multidisciplinary team.
7. Empathy, compassion, and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
8. Knowledge of ethical guidelines and professional standards for addiction and mental health practice.
10. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a caseload effectively.
