Responsibilities
- To be a resource to families and staff in relation to nutrition, food handling and storage.
- To display weekly copies of menus for families and any changes to menus as necessary.
- Seek an external review of food hygiene and safety on an annual basis and incorporate any recommendations into policy and practices.
- Create a supportive working environment for children, parents and employees.
- Appropriate planning and ordering of the fresh foods and supplies required for the menu whilst working within the allocated budget. 
- Regularly order and maintain adequate supplies of stores and ascertain accuracy of food orders delivered to the Centre.
- Ensure “best before” dates on products are checked weekly and removed immediately if expired.
- Organize orders of bulk food purchases and make provisions for weekly and daily supply of fresh food when needed.
- Regularly review menus and keep written records of such reviews and any feedback provided by parents and employees.
- Check menu for the next day and ensure meat is transferred to the fridge for thawing and the supplies need to fulfil the menu are on hand.
- Work with the Supervisor and employees to plan and prepare meals for the children including breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon snacks, taking into consideration:

- Nutrition requirements of the age group
- Cultural and religious differences
- Additional needs of the individual child
- Special needs of children aged 0-2 years
- The labour, facilities and financial resources available
- Ensure all children with allergies are catered for - list confidentially displayed in kitchen
- To keep kitchen area clean at all times such as cupboards, doors, countertops, etc.
- Ensure that the kitchen door to be closed and latched at all times when leaving the kitchen area.
- Ensure adequate cleaning supplies are kept in the kitchen (e.g. dishwashing liquid and washing detergent containers kept full).
- Ensure that all chemicals in the kitchen are stored in compliance with Work Health and Safety Policy.
- Ensure all serving trolleys and trays are cleaned on a regular basis.
- Ensure hygienic handling and correct storage of food and drink at all times.
- Seek an external review of food hygiene and safety - on an annual basis and incorporate any recommendations into policy and practices.
- To assist with general supervision of children on as needs basis.

Professional Qualifications
- Able to obtain a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Screening, First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate - Level C, and meet health requirements
- Current Food Handlers certificate

This is a physically demanding position as it requires constant active movement from standing position to squatting or sitting on the floor or child sized chairs, as it is necessary to be at the child’s level and then move to other areas of the classroom as needed. Lifting and moving furniture is also required to adapt to the room set-up throughout the day. Physical strength is also required as there may be children up to 50 pounds who require lifting for diapering or other special needs.

Applicants must be fully vaccinated with both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, with the second dose having been received at least 14 days prior to the start date, or have an approved exemption before entering House of Wonder premises for work.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
