The purpose of the Spiritual Care Chaplain is to support guests within the framework of The Mustard Seed and to develop a community based Spiritual Care plan that will provide Spiritual Care to all those seeking support. The Mustard Seed Red Deer is striving to rely heavily on the Christian community to provide Spiritual Care and support throughout the week and the Spiritual Care Chaplain will build plans and processes that ensure we have comprehensive coverage in place that involves as many churches as possible.

Position Type: Part time (20 hours weekly)
Location: Red Deer

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Passion to see guests come to Christ and intentionally pursue discipleship
- Build and nurture relationships with guests individually and in groups
- Provide training and support to volunteers in collaboration with Volunteer Resources
- Lead bible studies, prayer meetings, preach
- Be a resource for staff in support of guest care
- Develop a community-based Spiritual Care plan that covers every day of operation at The Mustard Seed Red Deer
- Guide and mentor intern and practicum students
- Track targets and measurable outcomes for monthly statistics and prepare reports, as required
- In collaboration with the Senior Director Spiritual Engagement, develop, implement and evaluate the Spiritual Care Plan
- Work closely with local leaders and parishioners in the Christian community to build a comprehensive Spiritual Care plan with them to ensure the Spiritual needs at The Mustard Seed are well cared for
- Attend meetings and training, as assigned
- Serve on internal and external committees, as requested
- Provide end-of-life support to families and guests including, but not limited to, conducting funerals and working with appropriate government agencies
- Other duties as required.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**
- Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Biblical Studies, or relevant area of study; combination of education and experience will be considered
- Minimum of 2 years related work experience
- Masters of Divinity would be considered an asset
- Pastoral experience considered an asset
- Experience working with vulnerable populations considered an asset
- A passion to help end homelessness in Alberta
- Superior communications and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Ability to work within team dynamics and with minimum supervision
- Strong working knowledge in Microsoft Office Programs (i.e., Word, Outlook, Excel)
- A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle with a minimum of $2,000,000 liability insurance.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Office and shelter setting
- Mental effort: moderate, periods of high volume workload
- Physical effort: Frequent reaching, walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time
- Must agree to The Mustard Seed’s “Chaplains Principle of Practice” document
- Flexibility to work afternoons, evenings and weekends as required.
- Working in and amongst a diverse group of individuals
- Extreme effort required to resolve conflict, build relationships with communities, and provide spiritual care
