**ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND**

The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is a non-profit organization created to focus national attention on mental health issues and to work to improve the health and social outcomes of people living with mental health problems and illnesses.

The Commission is a leader nationally and internationally in several areas. Building upon the work done to date, the core mandate, and the unique position of the Commission, and guided by Changing Directions Changing Lives: The Mental Health Strategy for Canada, the Commission will focus in the areas of, substance use, suicide prevention, population-based initiatives, and engagement. This prioritization will enable the Commission to be successful in meeting its mandate, staying focused, and having a measurable impact for those living with mental illness and their families and caregivers.

The Mental Health Commission’s head office is located in **Ottawa, Ontario**.

**POSITION OVERVIEW**

Reporting to the Director, Prevention and Promotion Initiatives, the manager will provide leadership and support to key strategic projects and initiatives in the prevention and promotion area and will also work in collaboration with other MHCC departments, as necessary. Projects include work related to Suicide Prevention will be focused on supporting the spread, scale-up and data collection of Roots of Hope, a community-based suicide prevention model.

The manager will oversee project budgets and ensure operational and strategic aspects of project deliverables and staffing needs are met efficiently and effectively.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Lead initiatives outlined in the workplan to support Roots of Hope and suicide prevention files including but not limited to: leading community of practice meetings, supporting collaborative work, and developing and promoting effective tools and resources.
- Lead the implementation and evaluation of project activities and deliverables.
- Lead the successful accomplishment of the goals as set by Director/ELT in the area of suicide prevention, and ensure that all aspects of the portfolio meet the expectations of ELT, the Board of Directors and Health Canada
- Establish good working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders to help achieve project goals
- Seek out and maximize opportunities for collaboration, mutual learning and support across the organization’s various projects and initiatives
- Represent MHCC on national and international conferences, committees and advisory groups (as required)
- Deliver presentations and public talks to senior leaders and other key stakeholders
- Support ELT, Director and other senior leadership needs as they arise, often with varying demands that can be time-sensitive, complex and/or confidential in nature.
- Manage employees:

- Recruit and onboard new staff members
- Guide staff through performance management process, including setting objectives, regular dialogues relating to performance, and annual year-end review
- Coach and monitor quality of work on a continuous basis
- Evaluates performance
- Support staff to find suitable professional development opportunities to facilitate their growth
- Authorize leave and overtime requests as well as expenses
- Other matters as required
- Monitor and track workplan to ensure deliverables are completed on time and on budget
- Work with team to lead the development and implementation of knowledge products and knowledge mobilization strategies for the purpose of dissemination and increasing the uptake of the Commission’s work
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with partners at community(local), regional, provincial, and federal levels
- With the support of the team, develop, track and report on several project budgets, ensuring accuracy and meeting various reporting needs
- Work with departments and key initiatives throughout the Commission to advance the Commission's strategic priorities
- Assist in determining ways of streamlining and increasing efficiencies of the program area
- Develop and track performance measurement indicators and assist with evaluation for the work being undertaken in the program area
- Provide additional support and coverage when Director is absent (including but not limited to attending Director huddles, providing updates on behalf of the department, acting as primary contact for program areas, etc.)
- Other duties as required
