**Job description**:
**Position Purpose summary**:
The Recreation Therapy Manager provides leadership and direction the Recreation Therapy Department at Edmonton Centre of Hope in accordance with the Mission, regulations and guidelines of The Salvation Army. The Recreation Therapy Manager acts as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team. The Recreation Therapy Manager is responsible for therapeutic assessment, intervention, program development and delivery, documentation, evaluation, research, and professional development in accordance with the standards of practice of the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association.

**Resident Care**:
In consultation with the Director of Care, plan, direct, and evaluate the delivery of the Recreation Therapy Program to ensure the program meets the physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of residents.
- Conduct recreation therapy assessments using a therapeutic recreation model and tools grounded in best practice.
- Organize, direct, and evaluate frequent and ongoing opportunities for residents to engage in community outings.
- Provide therapeutic recreation services in functional intervention, leisure education and recreation participation.
- Collaborate with residents to develop goal-directed plans of care for recreation, leisure, and social engagement.
- Operate within the scope of practice of a Recreation Therapist to deliver safe, efficient, and effective delivery of all recreation services
- Liaise with Alberta Health Services in matters relating to the residents sponsored by Alberta Health Services.
- Work as a member of the Case Management Team ensuring an efficient, safe and resident-oriented facility, providing holistic integrated care, including participating in case conferences.
- Assess resident responses to interventions; report any significant changes to appropriate team members.
- Communicate in a sensitive and compassionate manner with residents and their families.

**Program Planning and Development**:

- Responsible for ensuring a high standard of evidence-based and resident-centered programming.
- Develop and implement recreation programs that meet identified resident needs.
- Develop program evaluations and commits to continuous quality improvement to meet changing needs.
- Plan, develops, revise, and implement policies and procedures.
- Write program and funding proposals.

**Human Resources**:

- Responsible for scheduling and appropriating staff hours within the recreation therapy department.
- Orientate, train, and supervise recreation students, volunteers, and new staff.
- Responsible for entering and approving staff hours for payroll.
- Maintain collective agreement compliance
- Monitor employee sick time and workers compensation utilizations to ensure effective use of resources.
- Ensure that the recreation therapy team complies with organizational policies and procedures, continuing care health service standards, accommodation standards, relevant legislation regulations, accreditation standards and regional health authority requirements.
- Conduct regular performance appraisals and addressing performance management in accordance with organizational policies.
- Responsible for the recruitment, performance management and discipline of staff in consultation with the Director of Care and Human Relations.
- Ensure staff complete all mandatory training and receives ongoing professional development
