**Land Conservation Technician**

Reporting to the Stewardship and Conservation Coordinators, the Land Conservation Technician(s) will assist with all aspects of land acquisition and stewardship. This includes assessments of potential properties, monitoring protected Natural Areas, recording and managing biological data, invasive species management, installing signage and other infrastructure, tree planting, dumpsite removal, and trail maintenance.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**:Conducting fieldwork within current and potential INT Natural Areas, including biodiversity monitoring, trail maintenance, tree planting, signage installation, invasive species monitoring and management, etc.
Collecting and managing data in the field and in an office setting.
Supporting the Land Stewardship and Acquisition teams with fieldwork and stewardship-related tasks.

**SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**:
Understanding and adhering to provincial NAPA regulations
Assisting with other facets of INT’s work as requested
Assisting with Conservation Guardian volunteer events and public engagement
Collaborating with fellow INT team members to prepare media content for newsletters, website, social media, public engagement etc.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:
The Land Conservation Technician(s) can expect approximately 80% of their time to be spent conducting field work and 20% office work. The technician(s) in this position should be prepared to perform field work in a variety of terrains and weather conditions, traveling across the island, sometimes working outside regular working hours and on weekends. Island Nature Trust has a fleet vehicle for the Land teams to use, however a reliable personal vehicle may be required for work purposes from time to time. Mileage for personal vehicle use is reimbursed at the rate set by the Province of PEI.

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Education:_
Required: Minimum one year of post-secondary education in a conservation-related or environmental discipline
- Experience:_

Essential: Experience conducting field work in various weather conditions and terrains, sometimes by watercraft.
Essential: Ability to work independently, seek assistance and input as required, and to work in interdisciplinary teams
Asset: Experience with plant and animal species identification
Asset: Experience working with and managing geographic data and navigating with GPS devices
Asset: Experience working with not-for-profit organizations

Essential: Strong computer skills, including MS Excel and Canva
Asset: Ability to use GIS programs including ArcGIS, Field Maps, ArcGIS Online
Essential: Strong written and oral communication

**TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT**

This is a contract position (37.5 hours/week) starting in May for 16 weeks (with the possibility of extension) based in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and working in locations across PEI.
Rate of pay is $16.75/hour
Must be a Canadian citizen or able to legally work in Canada
